Re: My Red Special
Washed it and drove it around for a bit in the sunny evening with the roof back.
Aaaaaw, what a smile it brings to the face. They have such a lovely motor don't they. Almost torquey, which is a funny thing to be saying but it just really suits the car. No idea when I last drove it, ages ago. I still cycle to work and anywhere else I can, and my other two babies have needed my focus for a bit.
Could never imagine selling this brilliant little buggy though. I would still trust it enough to go on a long journey tomorrow. I do take tools in this one when I go places. I don't need them, but you know..

Re: My Red Special
Fired up the buggy today. Judging by my last post it's been two months since its moved. Oh dear.
I had the return of another car from long term bodyshop hibernation to deal with and the fettling of that to distract me.
The buggy fired right up after all that time, well, on the second go at cranking at least. Washed it, roared around in a bit to clear its lungs.
Swapped the speedo and rear door retaining strap. (Thanks Daras!)
Changed the mirror mounting blocks. (Thanks Daras again!)
Happy days.

Re: My Red Special
Gave it a quick drive and a look over before making the pilgrimage home. It's done the trip down to Devon and back nearly 200 times but always worth a check isn't it. It was looking and feeling lovely. All it does these days is sit outside but it's always so willing to go, when I need it. Its been such a brilliant classic car to own.
I'm really looking forward to the trip with an audio book playing.

Re: My Red Special
700 miles doing family duties and camping on the beach. It's been a brilliant few days with the car making everything so fun and easy. Five hours to get home today and despite the howling weather it was cosy smooth and fun. I do love the super buggy. And it's used hilariously little fuel.
It attracts so much attention though! People in Devon often stopping and walking all around it with maybe a Deuche story of their own from before. Sweet.

Re: My Red Special
Went to take the car to Hampshire as it'd been sitting a while and I had an errand to do. Started perfectly, no ability to rev or move itself.
Condensor failure, so I took another car.
So today I messed around and caused myself various confusions by my lack of a methodical approach. Haha. Eventually I replaced the condensor and have sited it now up by the coil, neatly mounted with heatshrunk wiring but super easy to change for the next failure. I do keep a spare in the car, I will have to get some more....
Also replaced the throttle cable as mine keeps gumming up no matter how much I oil it. And the voltage regulator, which now behaves more normally. Replacement from Ecas, the other one was never right from new I don't think. But worked.
Its purring again, had a quick spin around and it was lovely.

Re: My Red Special
Do the throttle cables have a nylon liner?

Re: My Red Special
Looking at the new one, didn't seem so. Just sliding in the thick plastic sleeve.

Re: My Red Special
Was just wondering, as you should not oil nylon lined cables, as the nylon swells with the oil.
I must look at my clutch and throttle cables as they are getting stiff.
