Post Re: My Red Special
A weekend away down home to South Devon in the Deuche and some important family events down there.

It's been such fun, Reading to Totnes with the roof back on Friday, roof back all weekend, driving quite a bit each day in glorious sunshine with the roof down. And back to Reading tonight, sunset drive, of course with the roof back into the night time. Do love night time roof back when it's warm enough.

It's done a few hundred faultless miles again and incredibly cheaply. What a fantastic little machine.

Did change the oil beforehand, I think its early but I've often done that. Bit of 'pinking' on the way home, only ethanol fuel down there and had also to use a small amount of E10. It's done that before, I put a bit of Millers additive in and it seemed better.

Totnes is twinned with Narnia. :D

I drove once open top from here to Metz in France. We started here around 17.00 hours and arrived there just for dark. Somewhere half way i had to put the heater on a bit but is was great.

Ian

Once had an accelerator cable break at Totnes.
We were visiting Sharpham on an open day. :)

The cable broke in the bit that attaches to the bulkhead.

My sister said, we need a bit of bent wire and some string.

Had some wire, but no string. :(

made a 'link' with the wire, and used a cut up carrier bag to whip the cable back on them selves.

Got us there and home, and around for a few days after.

Ordered a barrel niple on ebay, and bought a bicycle rear brake cable in Exeter.

Easy, cheap repair, if you dont want to pay out for oem cable. :D

Brilliant Roger. I was just thinking when I changed the throttle cable not so long ago, a bit of string could serve in an emergency!

I love Totnes. Its my birth town. It was pretty amazing to be there in such glorious sunshine. But yeah Narnia hehe.

Did some greasing, king pins and driveshafts. General check over. All is super, as usual.

I have some rubber rear over riders I found after years of searching, but missing their bottom brackets. Hung them on the bumper anyway to see H how they look. I like them. I'll have to make or get made a couple brackets.

How do do rear overriders look?

I'm away at the moment. And not in the Deuche. I'll snap a picture when I get back.

Had a very satisfying tinkering session yesterday.

Fixed my oil light. Yay.
Changed the seals on the brake fluid reservoir.
Did a little pre winter thing I always used to do on this car but forgot lately - remove all the light lenses remove all the bulbs and clean all the contacts with WD40. Also the fuses and contacts, and unplug/plug back in all the bullet connectors so the connection was good, using WD40 there too.
Tightened up those nuts on the U bolt that secures the steering column. I felt I hadn't quite tightened them enough on refitting.

A happy 2cv tinkering day.
