We'll see when the flamer is rolling :)

Began fitting the brakes,

My special tool from Ebay doesn't fit

I bought a new fitting kit, the springs and cups are much thicker, didn't have holes for circlip pliers either so had to drill them in

had to jam this against the pin so I could get the flamer on! Should have used the old ones

I kept the old ones, only replaced the spring for the new ones.
I think the old stuff is much better.

Did you file an angle on the front and back of the braking material? Avoids noise while braking.

Some folks say it needs a sharp edge to self clean and some say bevel it, I think I'll wait and see. I am sure that I'll be adjusting it again once it's bedded in :) .
One drum, passenger side is smooth inside, the driver's side has some grooves running around it unfortunately. The rear drums are good also.

Ready to go back, apart from some plastic tubes that take any gearbox oil that escapes from the diff units before it hits the shoes!
Haven't decided yet whether to fit the box first and then the engine, or combine them on the bench and then install. My mate Pete and I have lifted heavy things many times over the years but we're over 60 now, it's the flamin' mileage. Might have to hire an engine crane...or make one :?: . as you know, it's in a Tent so can't easily sling from the roof!
 welcomed.

Well we had a nice idea to put the rear engine and gearbox in the Sahara. We used an long old door of an wardrobe. On that we put the engine and gearbox assembly and slid the whole thing in place like a baker put's his bread in the oven. Connect the gearbox to the axle and than pull the door out from under it. Went very well. The length of the door or a long solid plank forms a nice lever too.

I'd have liked to have seen a video of that! :)
If I hire a crane I'll have to fix the floor.

Chipboard huh!

It's hanging in there, need to weld/braze the joint between the lower panel and the upper firewall/bulkhead, and fit pedal bushes and spring retainers, etc....and paint, hey it's only February, just, Mistle Thrush singing his heart out this evening, cold but clear 8-). I'll have to find a suitable 2 Litre can to sit in the retainer bracket, send one over if you spare it.

You have to take off the wings lamps and bonnet catch of course. Then there won't be a problem. The wood board on the floor and the front chassis member. Slide the enigine and gearbox up to the top. Then slide the board with the assembly in place. Connect up at the rear and pull the board out. I did it also by myself in the other 57 2cv.

I would fit the gearbox first and then the engine, separately.
Both are too heavy to handle , and a crane on that floor is very tricky , it could tip over and damage the van, and engine/gearbox. Don't put all your eggs in one basket.
