Thanks Pete, I probably will fit door mirrors as well (eventually),I'm also looking at motorcycle mirrors for this flamin' wing thing.
When the weather improves I can get going again. Had to go with Daisy to the Algarve on a mercy mission last week, helping my father-in-law clear vegetation around his property because of the fires last year. Flamin' weather over there was wild, windy and wet, just like Wales . The house is full of tyres and inner tubes and seats and lights(got to have righthand headlights for the UK) and other stuff and no time to get anything done because of work etc. Well that's the rant over, better get some more ice for my Gin, I'll just pop outside .

Ok. An old van has 1 mirror at the left (front) fender, I don't think they made those old vans rhd. The miror you want to use is way to big. I think the original miror on the fender is less then half as big. Think about the size and looks of a bicycle miror. If you want I can measure mine and make a pic..

The original ones are rather ridiculous with 70mm diametre. You will see almost nothing i think..

I've just finished reading South, a book by Shackleton(there's a quote that links him with Amundsen and Scott, but I can't remember how it goes), so in the spirit of exploration I opened up the tent for the start(and hopefully the finish) of the 2018 season on this Flamer.
For anyone who works out of doors, this year so far has been very trying and difficult, no frostbite but plenty of snow, ice and damp, not great for lovers of old vehicles.
After clearing out the leaves etc. I started to fit the clutch and brake pedals etc. Because of wear in the assemblies I've decided not to weld or braze the guides and spring holders in place until I've got the engine and box installed and driven it. I'll use self tapping screws( a step up from pop rivets ).
The pedal shafts glide in brass bushes but unfortunately decades of resting in the great outdoors have corroded the shafts just where they slide through, can't find the handbrake lever either, flame knows where the little devil has fecked off to.
Still,if you want to holiday somewhere different this year, Shackleton recommends three cracking huts on the shores of the Ross Sea, fully provisioned etc.(bring your own sleeping bags)... and dogs.

Removed the gearchange assembly, the gaiter had melted and the shaft had lost some of it's chrome.

It cleaned up OK and slides smoothly, no lube, right
Lifted up the back of the van while Daisy pushed some more foam onto the stand(Good workout, great handles/bumpers ). This is so I can fit the roadwheels which I've just painted. Need to get ATS(Tyrefitters) to do the tubes and tyres for me now.

Think talcum powder can be used as a form of lubrication. Definitely no grease or oil though.
