Post Re: Van repairs
It was bolted on , I think it was something connected to the original bumper which didn't come with the van when I bought it.
Anyway, Today was rear bumper day, blue skies, gentle breezes, perfick 8-).

The problem here was that the bumpers were fouling the doors. Originally they were brazed(Bronze welded/silver soldered?) into fittings that were spot welded to the rear crossmember. The crossmember was one of the first parts I fitted when replacing the cargo floor all those years ago. Then was not the right time to mess about with the bumpers, now is!

The bumpers are bent upwards(that's how they were fitted when I got it) and the holes in the crossmember needed adjusting to allow the doors and the seals to pass.

Great fun brazing 60 year old tube, won't show you the other one  .
Anyhow they're done 'in the spirit of Citroen and can be removed if neccessary to allow Waxoyl etc. to be poured into the crossmember(which looks like a big rust pocket to me .
Flamin' work tomorrow, just when I was getting going!

I think you are right it must be a part of the frontbumper fixtures.
It might be one of these or what is left of it...

Battered and twisted (like me) except for one with a broken hollow rivet (weight saving).

After much pressing, hammering and cursing,

Time to grind the welds back I reckon, and get the spraygun fired up ;) .

If i am right the hinges of the door stays on the body side had a wooden or pertinax blocks under it so that they dont touch the doors.

Cheers! It's getting there but fighting back all the way :) .

Brazed up some cracks around the door stay mountings, ground back the plug welds, tidyied up the tent, hoovered all the dust, leaves etc. and sprayed 400ml. of primer/filler, hardener and thinners onto the load bay and rear crossmember.

It does look a lot better. Very hard to see 'cos the corrugations cast a shadow, need more light  .

Another coat of the same tomorrow, the filter mask is useless, I've left the good one at work unfortunately.
