No problem, pity you didn't come and see the 'pit crew' at Newby Hall.
Sean, Martin and myself were up the usual...

Thanks Ken, more shiny new bits heading my way from ECAS it seems. Hopefully when I get it back together it will be better than ever. :)

I'm not sure if I saw this car at the National. I wasn't the one with the alloy wheels was it?

Nah mine still looks almost identical to the first pictures. I drove there and back each day because I'm not far, so it was in the car park down at the front of the field.

Unfortunately I missed the weekend, the delivery people sent my stuff to the wrong place, but that meant I came home to a lovely box of shiny bits today. :)

Spent a little time with it tonight, got one barrel and piston fitted. Took me a while but I'm hoping the other side will take half the time now I've had a go.

Well, its all back together and seems to be happy. It's running better than it ever has. Only done a few miles up to now, but doesn't seem to have any leaks or anything, so I'm very happy. :D

Cancel previous mention of no leaks, as I posted in another thread I've been having the same oil leak as always down the right side of the engine/chassis and on the bottom of the sump.

Initially thinking it was the oil feed to the head, I've checked that out and it's staying completely dry. Oil seems to be coming out of the rocker cover quite a bit and one of the pushrods, but I'm not sure if its the seal.

The rocker cover is now brand new and is on it's third seal, one of the Burton reusable ones. I have tried the older style seal in there as well, but the same thing happens. I've tried tightening by hand and torquing to 5Nm.

The pushrod seal is a bit stranger, just from running it and watching, the spring gets oily first and starts to drip, then eventually you see oil appearing around the seal, almost as if it's coming down the tube rather than out of the seal. I tried jiggling it with a screwdriver but it made no difference. It does seem to be moving freely though, and it's only the right side rear tube that is wet, the front is bone dry. I've attached a picture of the tube from the head side as it looks a bit out of shape, but I'm not sure if this would cause what I'm seeing.

The breather is also new and the engine has been running fantastically since the rebuild, I just can't seem to sort these leaks. They were also there before the rebuild, and haven't got any better or worse. It is starting to get onto the right hand brake, and the MOT is next month so I hope I can sort it soon.

Re. The pushrod tube leak, have you checked for a pin hole in the tube under the spring or washer?

And is the rocker cover distorted on any way, either the sealing face not flat, or it's been tightened down too hard in the past and now it's bottoming out on the rocker posts or cylinder head nut?

Just ideas...

pushrod tubes can come loose and leak, hairline cracks in the pushrod tubes that open when warm we have also seen, Do you have the right washer on the bottom head nut?
