Well, here it is, my first proper, road going 2CV.

The car is a 1985 2CV Spécial in Black, the original colour (which comes up quite well).

The car is from the Netherlands, and seems to have been converted to RHD in 2001/2002-ish by Jeroen Cats. There is a page on his site which explains why it came here. http://www.cats-citroen.net/citroen_features/azblack/

As he mentions he was in the process of converting it to a Club but never finished, currently it is only missing the dash and steering wheel. Since coming here it's had quite a bit more work done, including a galvanised chassis, although I'm not sure which chassis it is.

Generally seems quite good, it's starting to get crusty in some of the usual places, so the first port of call is going to be tidying that up. Most importantly it drives great, bogs down a bit if you're not careful but that seems to be because the accelerator pump is seized fully open.

As I say, immediate plans are to sort the bits of bodywork that need it, and fix the daft little issues like the accelerator pump or the oil leak. I'll probably go down the road of fitting the Club dash, and I might fit a single spoke wheel if I can find one. For the time being though, I intend to just enjoy it. :)

Well, I've had the car a couple of weeks now and I bloody love it. :)

I've managed to sort of a few of the smaller issues up to now. Accelerator pump is freed off, heater controls now work smoothly, and the engine doesn't pink anymore under hard load. I also realise they're not to everyone's tastes, but I have fitted yellow bulbs. Not great in the dark but I do prefer the look.

I have been chasing an oil leak since I got it, initially thinking it was the rocker seals. They made no difference, but after I took the fan off today there seems to be oil caked everywhere on the front of the engine, right down to the points box. That somehow seems to be dripping off the engine and running down the chassis leg, which is why I suspected rocker seals. I guess this is most likely to be a crank seal?

I still have a list of (mostly small) things to sort out, and I got a nice box of bits from ECAS this week that should keep me occupied for a while.

Every vehichle ive ever owned has leaked oil

I dont get oil seals, they are lubricated with oil so why leak?

My hilux leaks fuel, water and oil! But not nearly enough to warrant the head ache to sort out (water i will though)

Looks good though

Did you do the polishing (detailing?) if so, how? I've found a chap who's agreed to do my cars for £40 each which seems like a good deal, just wondered what's involved?

What does he involve for that? That sounds like the deal of the century giving how much of a ball ache it is

Nice car, I think they look great in black. Nice story too with the link to Jeroen.

I ordered a black one in 1983, but as it didn't show up after several months i did take a bleue lagune the dealer had sitting in the showroom. And sure enough 2 weeks later the black one arrived....

I did this by hand, but I would guess a machine polisher would save a fair bit of work. I just used one of these all in one wash & wax sprays with some microfibre cloths, and then used some proper polish and a clay bar on any really bad bits like the rust on the front wings. I try and be fairly thorough, but I'm no professional. To be fair, it was pretty good to begin with, just a lot of salt.

I know I'll get a few uses out of that lot, but together they cost the best part of £35, and it took me a few hours, so £40 sounds pretty good really.
