Yesterday one of my headlights cut out. So i checked today. Didn't find anything at first than i saw a bulb was black. So i put in a nice new Philips bulb. The light did work immediatly but in the bulb there was a lot of white smoke and it was dead again???? I had already changed the other bulb last week. So what now? I had before a complete loss of the headlamps due to bad installed plugs. So i took the insulation fabric off en yes two wire did fall out of the plugs again... In fiddling with the wires i ripped one of the iginition wires. Nice. So i have some soldering to do. But that will be for later when i have daylight again.... |

After a lot of rain it was slightly sunny this afternoon, so i could quickly repair the deuche. It's up and running again. |

Same problem, some connectors were crimped poorly on the wires did slid off. If they break again i have to change a part of the front loom i think. Those crimp on connectors a of a poor quality. Shame the original connectors are not there anymore. |

I made a complete new loom front to back for the Shed  I tin the wire, dip it in flux, then crimp the connector on. Finally, touch the crimped part of the connector with the soldering iron until the solder flows a little. It makes really good connections. Finished off with loom tape

I have found special vintage pliers on the fleamarket it makes an S-shaped pinch in the connector. It has double hinged beaks so you can apply a lot more force. |

I've got better at this over the years. My 'work' years ago was so shockingly bad, it involved twisting wires together and putting insulation tape over the top. So bad... Nowadays I have those special crimping pliers and I love heat shrink. Soldering I've never managed to get good at even though I've tried! |

Poor soldering, is often down to poor quality solder, and also, not cleaning contacts before hand. I've recently been trying to solder a memory chip onto a board. The legs on the chip are about a half millimetre apart. |

Oh dear, half a mm.. Yes I problem I've often had is the solder running off the object very quickly! Could easily have been dirt I suppose. What would you clean the wires with? |
