Re: AZL 1957
Well is was only for one day. It was grey and very cold today. Since yesterday the 57 started smoking a lot in idle. I think the valve guides have had it.

Re: AZL 1957
Appears to be oil then I would be checking the breather first though, if it appears variable. It's not impossible that oil quality can make a difference.

Re: AZL 1957
Well, i did check the breather out last night and was completly "drowned" in oil. So i cleaned it up and put a new one in. No help it still smokes but not so much. But i think it might be the oil as i had to put a bit thinnner oil in. We will see how it advances. Had some engine cut outs on the way to work today. Gave the idle jet a clean and it was running ok on the way back.

Re: AZL 1957
Have cleaned sparkplugs and contacts, they needed a small correction in the timing too. Starts perfectly again. There is a small oil leak near the oil cooler somewhere. The left side of the engine was rather greasy. There was even some oil in the claxon..

Re: AZL 1957
take a look where the cooler oil pipes connect to the engine. the differing metals of the tube and the threaded metal bit, cause galvanic erosion. This causes the aluminium tube/s to erode and weaken and eventually to have holes in it. don't ask me how I know

Re: AZL 1957
The aluminium ones also suffer from the salt spray in the winter. On my blue deuche the aluminium was worn so thin like tin foil. When it put the pressurewasher on it the lamelles crumbled. But the coolers in the old cars are made of brass and copper.
