SHE'S NOT WELL

She's currently sat at Frontlines Citroen Nr Chesterfield awaiting an MOT but these are the things we know for certain are wrong with her:

KingPins - apparently there's shed loads of play in them despite being fine 1000miles ago when they were last greased

Hole in NSR Floor - I put my foot through it in France

OSR innerwing/structure badly corroded - not sure if MOT issue as she doesn't have rear belts

Exhaust is shot - I quite like the popping on overrun

Headlamps - She looks in different directions like that bozzeyed kid at school

2cv Boots - No biggie.

I've been out of work since Sept 09 due to injury so the money pot is running a little dry at the minute, they're going to run it through the MOT garage to see what he picks up on and we'll go from there. When I've got a bit more money to lavish on her then I'll think about doing bits MOT tester might not notice.

Hello, just me.

Thought I'd post an update, not that any of you care, I just like talking to the internet ;)

Well the Dyane did indeed pass her MOT last year. I think the MOT testers guide dog was having an off day as they didn't pick up on a split in the floor on the offside but did pick up on my foot hole and a leaky shocker. The headlights passed despite pointing in opposite directions and not being very silver.

The car has been running pretty well if I'm honest. A run up to Tan Hill for the raid showed that the valve clearances needed doing. Thanks to Ken's clear directions on facebook I managed the clearances by myself and actually got them somewhere near! The car runs a hell of a lot better for it.

She's always leaked oil, not quite sure where from. Someone mentioned the spectacle seal but I haven't a clue how to fix that so it'll have to wait for a bit unless someone has any ideas?

Structurally she's playing the "I'm a Dyane" card in that there is water coming in from around the windscreen and bonnet hinge. The top of the bootlid leaks a bit when the raid is heavy and the offside C-pillar is little more than a rubber seal and blue paint. Oh and that split is still there on the OS rear floor where it meets the cill. The roof is starting to split in that way that only plastic roofs can, it never did fit quite right.

She's getting between 40 and 50mpg dependent on how pumped up the tyres (and me) are. Uses a bit of oil now and then and is crying out for some new sockets for the lights to attach into (the £11/set SPOG ones).

All in all, she's looking a bit tatty and rough round the edges. Just got to keep her going for a bit longer until I get a garage or get bored.

I've never owned a car for more than a year before so I think I'm doing well, but I'm always open to offers.

Pete

I love it, it's just when I pull onto a business park littered with 3 and 5 series, audi's and generic black or silver saloon cars for a meeting and I turn up in a noisy, tatty rust bucket reeking of petrol and exhaust smoke people tend not to take me very seriously.

I need a 'normal' car for day to day use :(

The spectacle seal, aka push rod tube seal is this one here, under the cylinder;

Taken from Sam's thread on his AK350, viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2745&start=70 It's an older engine but it's the same idea.

Can the pushrods be pulled through the head? A couple of holes in the wing would be easier to do than try dismantle the front end of the car. When I did the valve clearances I did them from above with the wings in situ as I'm not convinced they'd go back on once I took them off. Plus I've never taken a head off before, not sure I'd know where to start.

No, you have to take the head off which means all the inner wing, outer wing, manifold, throttle linkage, choke cable, alternator belt/wiring, exhaust and cowlings. Not as bad a job as it sounds, twenty mins dissasembly, ten seconds changing the seal and half an hour putting it together again.

That's exactly what I found. If it was just me then I wouldn't mind, but there's something slightly disrespectful about turning up at a funeral say, in a 'fun' car. Same goes for places where you don't want to be noticed.

HAHA.....I love things like that. A doctor I knew 10 years ago, had an old 2CV. He had driven it for over 10 years, as a daily driver. He did not have any other car. Seeing his car among the other doctor's cars, was great. It made my day :D
