Post The Grey Nurse
I have been commissioned by a 2cv friend to do a toe board repair to one of his newly acquired raid vehicles.
I present the Grey Nurse!

Firstly moved him into the shed then spent a few hours unbuttoning everything, then the tricky task of separating the body with a friend, leverage is a beautiful thing!

Chassis is in sound shape, with an extra thick coating of red dust 8-)

There is the fuzzy bits I need to replace...

Can't wait to jump into it grinder first!

Love the vents in the A-panels; does it have the ones in the rear panel too? Can they be retro-fitted?

history of the car is lost in time but I think it was a LHD converted to RHD in Queensland many years ago.

There was a full RHD front firewall replaced and converted to disc brakes, also has 602 motor (not sure if thats original?)

The fresh air vents were retro fitted from an FJ40 (?) land cruiser probably. They are a reasonably common mod on raid vehicles in Oz.

I also love this van and would like to own one of my own one day.

Must have been an interesting Raid; if those rear dampers are Lipmesa/Allinquants, they're fitted the wrong way round...

Thanks for the story, Harley.

I don't think that a 602 motor can possibly be original, but I believe it was a common bit of retro-fitting here in France.

I just spent another 4hrs on the Grey Nurse.
Firstly I ordered some steel and cross braced it all.

Then unbuttoned her and had a look under her skirt...

A little bit more bracing before I cut the sills out:

Cut out some more rusty bits before making up some small replacements,

Like a bought one 8-)
I got the hammer and D*lly out and straighten all the surfaces to mate up the new lower firewall panel. feels good taping it all out nice and straight
NOTE: The edges sen in the previous pics had not been straightened out at that stage ;-)
