So, as requested a thread on my latest car, the grey shed! So bought this car a few months ago for £450 from a local guy. So I've spent the last few months slowly stripping it down and assessing the work it needs.

So this is it as bought:

And this is where I am now:

So basically it needs rear seat belt mounting points fixing, and this:

Then it needs a respray, new hood and new seats. I've already got a nice Spec rear seat off Ebay for £2.40, so all I need now are some Spec front seats or a new pair of front seat covers.

I've got a few ideas for the paint scheme, which you'll have to see when it's finished.

Welcome, Steve. What a bargain you've got there, hows the chassis and floors? Engine running?

Some seats here:

and for a lot of money, here:

Good luck.

So I tried to fire it up today. No luck, and by the lack of petrol smell I'm guessing no petrol from the tank. How can I prime the system?

perhaps start with some fresh gasoline in the tank - take the hose of the carburettor - start the engine and see if gasoline is being pumed up - if so : next step cleaning the carburettor might be a good idea - if no gasoline is being pumped up : repair the old or mount a new gasoline pump - after mounting restart and see if she or he wants to start - the basics you need is a air/gasoline mixure + compression + a good spark ... changing oil & filter is what I standard do with a new / unknown car

success !

As a shortcut you can drip some petrol on the sponge of the airfilter so that it is almost soaked and put it quickly in the airfilter. try to start the car imidiatly. If it wants to run now than difinitly your petrol lines are blocked....

If you are with 2 men you can try to startpilot it....

I use a cord switch with one cable to the battery and one on the starter. Then you can do it without anny help.

Why not just take the air filter hose off and pour some petrol directly into the carb - turn over and it will fire and if pump is ok will start to fill carb.....
