hmm! rear brake cylinders, shoes and springs all done, bled and I think adjusted correctly, but its still a death trap. only brakes on front right.
can someone tell me if the 14mm shoe adjuster nuts tighten clockwise or anticlockwise, and is it the same on both left and right or are they handed?, I forgot to look when the drums were off
are there any tricks to get the new shoes binding in well, quicker?
doesnt seem to be leaking anywhere.

todays other news...the upholstery is going in slowly and look slick, but I´ve got other work on and I´m putting the lambretta in primer at the same time so Its all slowed down.

once the brakes are working properly I just need the wiper washer system to work(mines got a push hand pump thing thats duff at the moment

and the horn switch changing

then its ITV test time

Have you got eccentrics at the pivots, or concentrics?
The snail cams go "out" to move the shoe out, all four of 'em.

Have you got lots of wasted travel at the pedal?

yes 3 pumps before anything really happens :?

so anticlockwise on the front sides and clockwise on the backsides?

Each shoe has a boss (7) slotted into it at the bottom. Originally, that was eccentric with a hex. A lot of people have fitted concentrics without. Which of those have you got?

If it's the hex eccentric, then you're going to need to use an adjustment tool.
If it's the round concentric, then it's easier to fit but you won't get such good brakes.

Then there's the snails at the top (8) with the adjuster bolt through the back plate.

That's all the same front and back.

Then, on the front, you've got the handbrake cable adjustment as well.

Either they're MILES out of adjustment or you've got lots of air still in the hydraulics. Or both.

Yep, assuming they've not seized, been replaced but cocked up - but sort the eccentrics first.

sig, with a single hex socket and a fixed breaker bar ( ratchets are too fiddly - spose a spanner is ok) when placed on the hexagonal headed adjuster in a horizontal position, its down to tighten up to loosen, irrespective of which side or hand its on.

perfect help guys thanks.

ok the shoes I took off had the hex pivot, and the new ones they gave me were simple rounds..hence my confusion, never even knew it was variable at the bottom.
will try bleeding again and adjusting tomorrow. maybe my 8 year old daughters legs weren´t long enough to push down hard enough! :D

They both just push out of the shoe - I'd use the eccentrics and take the little bit of extra effort to set 'em up.

bleeding brakes abc....

A) build pressure on the pedal (pump fast several times till theres pressure)

B) loosen the bleeding bolt at the cilinder, pedal will go down quickly, when pedal is at the floor keep it there;

C) tighten the bleeding bolt; release the pedal...

go back to A.......

Go on till there aren't any airbubles comming out

Don't forget to fillup the reservoir otherwise you can start over.....

start with the right rear cilinder, then left rear cilinder, front right cilinder and if there is left front cilinder........
