Don't think it is reasonable to blame the initial set up. Most gear boxes are driven for a few decades without anything done except oil change. Wear in the bearings, gears and shims is naturally common. That will alter the specifications (dropping the pinion on the crown wheel) subsequently causing stress on the contact surfaces. |
