I finally started building the supercharger inlet plenum out of an old fire extinguisher and steam pipe. Now it's off to my brothers to glue it together with the tig.

I'm thinking I will be able build an alternator mount on the other side off the fuel pump mount...
It was a good day :-)

This is great, smart idea with the rear panel. Looking forward to seeing more updates!

Thanks Peter, looking forward to seeing more from you also! 8-)

Mounted the throttle body today, was able to tig a plate on to the end of the original supercharger inlet.

Still need to die grind the inlet a bit...

Already got one :D
I will mount it once the manifold is finished and fitted. Also need to find an alloy end piece of the correct diameter....
I had a present arrive from master Barbour today :D 2-1 exhaust :D

why???
throttle valve located before the compressor.
There is no need for such only if the throttle is positioned after

By fitting a dump valve after the throttle you can reduce pumping losses by allowing the supercharger to "free wheel" at idle and cruise, making it more efficient. Otherwise it is sucking against a closed throttle, building extra heat and greatly increasing pumping losses.

Looking at the VGS 2CV, I think the throttle is after the supercharger so they need a bypass valve otherwise on throttle close it would stop the supercharger from spinning destroying belts and possibly bending the throttle shaft. The advantage is much crisper throttle response being closer the the inlet valves.

I can understand your thought, but when the throttle is closed, the compressor will run in a vacuum, and run on free wheel.

A dump valve after the throttle will make false air.

This is one of the myths of supercharging i believe. Everything I have learn't has been from literature, practical books not the net, but I don't have real world experience yet...

Without a dump valve (bypass valve) there will be a vacuum of up to 15inches of water before the supercharger, this creates a small amount of heat & pumping losses, so the suprcharger is not free wheeling. So when set up correctly the bypass valve will only operate in the event of a vacuum, which is why it is there.
With a bypass valve on a roots type supercharger the recirculating air does not heat up each time it passes the S/C as it has no internal compression ratio.
A bypass valve will allow the engine to operate in the even that the S/C fails, either through seizure or belt snapping.
A bypass valve also places less load on the starter motor at start up.

I found this interesting: click for link.
Quote:
For highly boosted engines it can be better, not only to employ a bypass system, but also to place the throttle after the supercharger so there is no heat build up off-boost. A throttled supercharger on a racing engine, in the light load, high revving, condition during the seconds before the start of a race, can heat up nearly to the point of seizure, so as the car gets off the line both the blower and the engine (as the excess heat dissipates into the system) are under extreme stresses that do not apply at other times. Reliability is much improved with a bypass and throttling after the supercharger.
