First time on the motorway yesterday. A little worried but all went fine. Very hilly route and the car kept the same speed all the way, very pleased. I was only getting 90kph and thought that was OK but just did a quick check and the pedal is only operating half of the carburettor. So I adjusted the pedal and "wow" a test on the flat in both directions gave me an average top speed of 120 kph. Acceleration is better and the hills are great. I knew the 1911cc engine should be giving me a little more power than I was getting.

Got very hot though as I have not yet put any insulation on the bulkhead - this is going to be a must.

Longer run next week into Toulouse and 2 days with the Traction Universelle Club at Midi Retro Auto.

running a bit calm the first time would be appropriate.... engine will need running in after rebuild.
Have many nice trips... ;)

I have been driving the small roads for the past 400km and now ready for the first oil change.

But it will now rest in the garage for the summer ad work starts for me now :(

I wish I could drive with my work - but the next 6 months involves me riding my bike in Corsica, the Alps, the Pyrenees and the Dolomites.
I have been on my bike about 6 times this year due to this project so I am crappy myself. Never been this unfit before :?

I will have the Traction out a few times in the summer though, June 7th is a big Toulouse take over for all classic cars just touring through the streets, Vinny will be there :D

This was a meeting of the Traction Universelle Midi Pyrenees section. Firstly a trip to the Bourse d' Exchange at Beauzelle near Toulouse. This is the 3 day Midi Retro show with a large indoor exhibition. A lot of nice cars on show. The TU had a stand there just opposite the monster American cars of the 50's. It was nice seeing all the local clubs and my son joined the Toulouse Mini Club (he just sold his Mini 1000 after buying what he thought was a Mini 1000 but turned out to be a Mini Cooper)

I bought some engine paint (inside and out) and a petrol restoration kit from Restom for my 4CV but otherwise not a lot of bargains there, there was another competing Bourse just down the road.

Then we had a stopover at one of the TU members house for an evening meal and the next morning we were off on the Route des Pigeonaires. Basically 28 pigeon lofts but more like pigeon chateaux, a route of about 100 km with a picnic in the middle. Very nice and it seems if you drive a Traction you can drink 3 or 4 or 5 bottles of wine at lunchtime without any problem at all :? ...... I stuck to the water as I still had a headache from the evening before. :(

The trip carried on to the Sunday but we had to leave which was a shame as the rest of the cars had a photo lined up in front of Concorde.... one of the members of the club is an Airbus Test Pilot so can get in anywhere ;)

So, what I have learnt is that;
1. Tinnitus comes free with driving a Traction - I need to get that heat and acoustic insulation in there quickly.
2. I must upgrade my clutch as juddering along is very inconvenient.
3. I need to adjust my gear shifting rods - sometimes I was getting stuck between changes.

But basically all went fine and I am happy with the power and performance of the car now. Cruising along at 100 kph on the motorway but having the ability to accelerate to overtake - Petrol consumption was not too bad either at around 10 km per litre

Here is a little video - not too exciting but what else do you see out the front of a Traction

Is the coal ring of the clutch bearing well centered? No bend clutch lever.

It is centred but the rest of it is probably not well adjusted. When I stripped it I did not know I needed a degree in quantum physics to set it back up with half of a citroen garage necessary for all the specialist tools.

Someveryone else had updraded to the modern type of clutch and said it would change my life.... So I will save over summer and put it in when I can.
