No way I am starting it - just want to "crack" it.

If it does not budge at all, I will wait until I strip it down and then send off the block to have new bits put in.

I'm with Ken on this I would rather pull the head off and have a look inside ,the ring may well be rusted to the bores. So the will need a good soak in diesel or the like. You may even find you need to drop the sump and release the con rod cap bolts to get it apart. If that method works with a traction type engine. Just be patient and not to much attention with a Birmingham screwdriver :-)

Yep - your right. I did just try jacking up a wheel but there is no movement what so ever and I have had diesel and oil soaking for the past 4 days.

Will leave it for now until I get room in the garage to start the strip down.

Anyone want to buy a Simca 6 :D :D

Yes, that's a legere rather than normale - not sure which are more sought after in France?

Quick update - managed to get it into the garage today as my 4L is "stuck" at the carrosserie (I was a little naive to think I would get it back within 3 months).

So I took the head off to see what was stopping the engine from turning over. I think I found the problem

The piston barrels were full of my loosening concoction so after withdrawing it with my giant syringe I wiped them as clean as possible. Piston 4 is chipped and broken a little. Piston 1 is chipped, broken and the barrel is rusted out.

I scooped out all the rust - not good. Looks like I will be having new everything in this engine.

The saga with the Carte Gris is also ongoing. The prefecture rumbled me on the fact the original owner is dead as their ID card had expired 6 years ago :( So now I have to get a notarised will from the estate showing the car passed down to his son. It is all in hand and patience is a must with these things in France. :?

Off to Paris in the morning to the Retro Show - hope to find out some businesses that can help me through this one.

That is the trouble with ancient cars, you never know what problem you will discover next.
But on the other hand : It is exiting ;)
Goodluck !

Looks like an excellent reason to put a modern engine in it.
