Ok i'm going to stick my neck out and go first here then :o

Modification, In all my years of owning dyanes, ( and I'm not that old!!! Had my first one at 18..and i'm a couple of decades older now and still have one....well sort off!!) I never bother with engine mods!! spent money on massive stereos and speakers and bolt on shit..well I was young!!!! :lol:

U will probably get someone on here saying Citroen spend time and money delevoping the engine and it works perfectly will as its, and to a point a certainly agree, I spent my "Other" money on good quality parts like 123 ignition, leads, plugs oil etc.. good tyres and regular maintenance..

Its only my opinion but i wouldn't bother with many mods. best spend ya money on top quality parts!!, as for the fuel, probably 2 options run the car on the high octane stuff at a bit more money, or have the heads re worked so they can run on un-leaded..

I'm sure SPOG can help with the rubbers

And as for lowering, I used to have most of my dyanes so the back wheel arch was level with the centre nut in the wheel trim... unladened..It just when down the more you put in it until you hit the bump stops, I may well stand corrected but I think the springs work the same from right up high to right down low, stiffer springs r the answer, or go for some Gaz shocks or simliar that might help!! that or don't have anyone else in the car!!!

1 Kingpins for that price fair enough - but some of their top money restaurations leave a lot to be desired also some of the mechanical understanding left a bit to be desired
2 shocks dont lower the car and there is only hobsons choice with shocks for a 2cv - avo do some used by the racers but really a bit ott for a normal car
3 yes the same spring rates - tho by a quirk of the way the suspension works it stiffens as its lowered, still stiffer springs are the way and ECAS and others will do springs that also lower the car
4 yep folk will tell/sell you all sorts of crap ( including your friends in 'Alifax or where ever they are today with their special high performnce engines....ie spray it silver and ignore the glaring mechanical issues) about how they can give you sooooo much performance - its all bolloks - Sam summed it up in a post re his Belgian racer chums but keep it standard but well set up and itll run rings round some pup with a 2:1 exhaust and a fancy filter then there is the "secret" nuggets such as increase the timing by 5* for extra power which just means i have to scrape the bits up from the pit floor.
5 fuel cats LRP? shite see 4 - save the money for new points and an oil change
6 if the windscreen leaks its wiper spindles or rotted out aperature, boot handle no seal there. And they all leak its part of the "Rural gallic peasant charm"
7 Rus is south Paul "tower citroen" is Retford and Geoff NES is Darlington Ken Hanna York and me in edinburgh ( but im not really intrested in doing Arms or anything really its time to head to the back of the cave :lol: )

yes Citroen did get it right they spent millions on the best eingineers to get it right and you kind of agree with that as you and i have the same sentiments about mods ;) some stuff they made a horrible compromise- dim dip and side repeaters and some stuff suffered pennypinching - soft steering components.

you dont need to do anything to the heads to run on unleaded you may have to retard the igntion and increase the primary jet due to the way modern fuel burns - its all on this forum

Best money you can spend is getting some NOS proper shocks(Boge or Limp) not just some tat that fits
not a big fan of 123 personally

They have ally heads, so already fitted with hardened valve seats so no LRP needed, they've been able to use unleaded since 1948 AFAIK. Fuel cats/lead pebbles/fishing weights in the tank are all cobblers anyway.

First thing, it won't help with leaks and secondly it's not going to last as long as it should, since it's bent almost double... ;)

I must add, it's nice to see that car having had a polish and tidy up again. Once Neil passed it on the condition deteriorated rapidly, it looks much better in the pictures than last time I saw it.

Are you near Manchester then? Alan makin is in Denton and is a great specialist, although if you're serious about doing the suspension properly I'd try either dalton in stoke or Geoff at NES. Alan would probably do it but I reckon he's more likely to tell you to stop being an idiot and that you'll ruin it :lol: if you just want to do it the easy way, and you're near Manc I can help, although I won't be back home til Christmas. Try popping along to the Manchester ducks local 2cv group... Good people and the aforementioned Alan is usually there. They meet the second thurs of every month in cheadle at the march hare pub. Hope that helps. P.s if you want to see a car 2cv city worked on five years down the line come and look at mine. Nice car, btw!
