Post Re: Green P.O.S.
You're right it is! Opened it today and it seems I've scored myself a stack of cassette tapes too. I turned the radio on and bugger me, it only works. What a bonus.

I hooked the battery up to my van and had a go at jumping it. Oddly enough, it didn't exactly spring into life. I ran the fuel pipe into a jerry can of fresh fuel, took the plugs out and cleaned them, along with the points but even with a full engine rebuild like that it still wouldn't start. The starter seems a bit lazy, it turned over but not with any real vigour or enthusiasm. Kind of felt like it was actually rather happier when it was rusting into the ground.

Then, some smoke came out of the starter so I gave up. It started raining too so I went back indoors and ate my lunch.

This evening, I found a spare starter that'd been carefully stored and preserved in the spares stock. I fitted that and was surprised to find it didn't work either. In fact, it did fuck all. I carefully removed it and placed it gently back in the storage facility (I threw it back on the shit pile) so that next time I need a starter motor I can find it and go through the same flurry of emotions that I did earlier (surprised/amazed/relieved/surprised/annoyed/disappointed). So there we go. The wanky tape player no bastard would ever want is in tip top working order, but the car won't start and I've been stockpiling a broken starter motor for a long time, and will probably continue to do so.

I've borrowed a stillage from work so I can store all of the parts that I need to keep from it, and I will be borrowing the plasma cutter sometime soon to make the rest of it fit in the skip. Once a new chassis materialises I can set about refitting all the rusty and worn out components onto that.

Just seen the pics for the first time and all I can say is oooooooooooooooo.

Shell doesn't look to bad and the car is a spurtfest of single choke carb goodness.

What a find!

Post Re: Green P.O.S.
I commenced the miserable and dirty job of stripping it down today. I'm going to bin most of the shell and the chassis, I have a shell offered to me and am currently looking for a chassis for it. Everything else off the car that's worth keeping is being stored. Unfortunately it needs a few bits and bobs. The dampers on the front have rusted through, but pretty much all of specific drum brake/Belgian built bits etc are all ok.

The spring cans have seen better days but that's not thye end of the world. Amazingly, all the axle bolts came undone easily. I haven't taken the axles off just yet as I need to be able to roll it in and out and time was getting on.

Anyway, More pictures of the stripdown.
