Post Re: 1965 2cv ENAC
Quite a painful weekend. Although the roofs been off since I went out Saturday morning and 2cv driving has been just about perfect what with the sun and all the birds getting their legs out and so on, but it's with great regret that I'm going to have to spend money I dont have on the car. The roof, as I may have mentioned has shrunk a bit and I can't get the bloody thing back on unless the boots open and it's warm. Sadly, I forgot about it this evening and trying to shut it when it was cold has resulted in me ripping it a bit. So, new roof required.

When I bought the car, it had a pair of new Toyos on the front. I'm not sure of I've ever mentioned how much I despise any tyre that isn't a Michelin, but As far as I'm concerned I would rather have no tyres than use anything else. Its not a purist thing, I'm certainly not a purist, as you may be able to tell from the ami6 van conversion, the graffitied bamboo, the caged up red spesh and the slammed drummer. I just like tyres to grip. I told the previous owner he could have his Toyos back once Id sorted a pair of tyres for it. Between Sam and I we have what I thought was a nice stockpile of part worn 135 michelins, unfortunately on closer inspection yesterday all bar three were flat, and of the inflated tyres only two were useable. I slapped them on the front in place of the Toyos and now the car handles like a 2cv should. If you can get the front end of a 425 to wash out then your tyres are shit. Now, no provocation at all will get the front end to break away. Because these tyres may or may not be mine, and are probably beyond their best, I think I might have to invest in a pair of new 135 michelins before the French national. That's going to be an expensive ECAS order but should see the car with a useable roof and a useable steering wheel for the next couple of years.

I love 2cvs. If this sunny weather continues through the summer it's going to be a good one.

I hope for your sake that the Michelins are still the same, now they are no longer made in France.

Luckily, I managed to get some from ECAS some time ago from possibly the last batch made en francais.

I've heard they're not what they used to be, but they can't be worse than the budget tyres.

I think there's another pair of mich 135s on the back of the Mehari - I can't remember what's on the front. The ones that came of Hetty are in there somewhere and they are shot to pieces.... we really must get round to sorting them all out...

I wish there was, it's probably overdue some maintenance but I've been proper skint, my new tyres and new roof haven't happened yet, and I've been too busy to get the engine out and have a look at the clutch. French national is only a few weeks away so I will hopefully get something done before then.

It's still going ok though, enjoying using it everyday to work and back, I had to steal the battery off my partner van for the works forklift so this is currently my only car.
