Just what I was thinking... ;)
For starters, the Visa's ignition setup kept the bodgers from making a dog's dinner of setting the timing and wrecking the engine.
( Had the all-time record the other week, a 2CV with 50 degrees total advance which somehow escaped with only a melted spark plug, although the compression on that side is down by 10 psi. )

Also, that extra crankshaft bearing on the Visa does a good job of eliminating the fan pulley breakage which plagued later 602 engines and was another reason why some bit the dust.

In fact, one of the few options for damaging them was to fit a different carburettor (or even 2) and set the mixture lean enough to trigger a partial seizure.
That's happened to a couple of the kit car brigade who've fitted motorcycle carburettors.

Original engine took me all over the place and old Dyane took me to Italy etc. This Visa engine looked fine on the inside and outside but the ignition left me down all the time - 2 sensors went and 1 computer. They are like gold dust to find so fitted 123 ignition. Also ran it first with standard carb but would only run properly with big filter and etc. Changed to 2 amals and worked hard to set mixture correct - many parcels from Uk with different jets. But now ( my theory please shoot me down if wrong) is that the pistons are forming the crank case to pressurize (New breather fitted) and all hell breaks loose with oil bleeding at highish rpm. Cannot have unrealiable car.

Ah well back to Dyane 6 now. It was lovely to turn the key after putting the plugs back in (turned over first to get oil pressure up ) and it started first time. Even gone backwards in power with 8.5 : 1 pistons so can run on cheaper petrol ( long tour coming in October ). Maybe I will put the Amals on this engine but just be glad to have reliable engine again.

I wouldn't recommend running on anything other than Super Unleaded and certainly NOT E10 Unleaded if at all possible, it does more harm than good.

Why do you need to run on high quality unleaded?
Only if your sporting 9.0.1
I run my 2cv (8.5,1) on 95 Ron, and it runs fine. No different than that odd occasion on payday I put the high quality stuff in..
I wouldnt even bother putting in an additive either

I've always believed and books etc back this that the 98 Ron is needed for the 9.0 : 1 Dyane but lower compression 2cv can run on old 2 star = 95 Ron. I ran my old Dyane with 8.5 : 1 on 95 RON (but with additives) all over the place including long drives to Italy and no problems. I have never had the guts to run without additives but saying that when I lapped in the valves on this motor the seats were fine.

Yes you need 98 for 9.0.1
But I wouldn't honestly bother with the additives
