Post Re: My AKS400
In normal circumstances, thats probably OK - I had intended on carrying my PA and Bass gear to gigs and stopping with about 300Kgs on board might be interesting on small diam drums....

Sam,
kerb weights; 2CV6 = 585kg, AKS400 = 638kg, Ami6 Est = 690kg

Weight of 25 litres of unleaded fuel = 18kg, weight of spare wheel with 125x15 tyre = 10kg.
Without checking, can you detect if you've left your spare wheel at home or the fuel tank is running low? ;)

Edit: The smaller diameter drum brakes on a 2CV are capable of coping with a rated Gross Vehicle Weight of 930kg.
If they can't, there's something wrong with them.

On the rollers at an MOT test, front brakes should show 'around' 150kg per side, rears 100kg.

Ken

I'm guessing the brakes are probably fine - it's just that they're 2cv brakes thats the issue. An AKS400 is, what, 200kgs heavier than a 2cv?

Had a good run out today in the yellow peril down to Coventry and back to show it to a fellow 2CV owner I know in business down there...hit 110KPH on way back up M69 to the A5 but think it must have been a good tail wind as otherwise did between 80 & 90Kph on the A5.
I think it does around 33mpg at that rate - is this normal?

Post Re: My AKS400
Got a new set of correct Valeo shoes this time - from a place called AEP in Scotland who seem to have a good range of very cheap Citroen parts - got a new grill from them for only £14 as well - and fitted today - the old ones seem to have a fair amount of friction material left but are very glazed and I think needed re-centering but they are now in the bin.

I dont have a centering tool but, using the advice of Haynes, and actually having a spare alternator bracket, fashioned one from the same with a couple of bolts and the shoes are very nicely centred, with no pulsing or pulling to either side. Also its now nice to have a handbrake that works as it was an interesting experience having to do hill starts with zero retardation on the handbrake!

Doing a back to back drive with the Beige Beast, you notice much better braking in the Dyane over the van, due to the larger diam drums I guess, although the shoes will take time to bed in I guess....
