I can appreciate where you're coming from, what was wrong with a bit of bent tube though? Why bother making it tapered like that? Who knows. Anyway, did your seat turn up unscathed? I couldn't remember which Batteur you wanted so you've got both. Sorry it was 'ghetto wrapped' like that, I didn't have a big enough box.

Its not just that its bent, the surface of it is sort of "ribbed",like machining marks, but very fine ones indeed.Maybe it was machined and then bent, who knows?
I am not going to paint it,just polish it and leave it as is :D .

Dave,
maybe it's because its shape was determined by someone who understood the stresses that it needed to cope with, rather than someone who merely wanted the job done as cheaply as possible.

The former would have been an engineer, the latter an accountant... ;)

I finally found a rear crank bearing. While I was looking,I decided to buy some new valves too.I found the bearing and intake valves on Leboncoin,a French lady had a load of Ami parts for sale, the exhaust valves coming from Germany,an Ami specialist, nice chap :) .
So,all the parts should be with me by the end of this week, then I can start to rebuild the engine :P .at last.

I have also decided to send my gearbox to Uncle Rick.I really cant justify spending more money on the special tools needed to strip, rebuild and shim the gearbox correctly,so,off its going.

Which type of valve did you go for? There are two types that were fitted to M4s. A type were fitted to the pre 64 engines with the short pushrods and the early style heads (that were used till 68ish) before the introduction of valve stem seals (69?).

The other type of valve is dished in the centre.

Hi Sam,the valves on my engine dont have valve stem seals,so the valves I have coming are, ones that dont need seals ;) .
The heads on the engine I had from Willami had seals on the valve stems, but I have decided to go with the original ones :D

It's the cool raked height ;)

I set it like that so she sits level when full of stuff and the wheels are neatly in the arches. The only disadvantage is I need two pillows or all the blood rushes to my head at night.

She hasn't bottomed out yet so tis all good.

and yeah, I binned valve stem seals as the fit was tighter with the non seal heads anyway. Have you done a compression test?
