Perhaps if you are worried about safety, fitting side, load bay windows for improved visibility, might be an idea?

Yes, this has crossed my mind. Turning out of a side road or onto a roundabout might be tricky. Only problem is, adding the window would mess with the original-ness of the van, and is playing havoc with my inability to make decisions!

If you can find an original van gearbox they are amazing. I swear Hetty would climb anything that wasn't actually vertical.

Got the original! Looking forward to trying it out!

If you did decide to paint it, You could do it black and see if you could get some thing like these (http://www.landrover-panoramic.com/photos) in the sides so they cant be seen too well.

Not sure about those Louis. I'm sure it wouldn't be too difficult to find some original van windows, and maybe even some good rubbers too. Strictly speaking the van won't be as it left the factory, but they must have been an option so shouldn't bother the purists too much. http://www.samgloverlimited.com/pics/im ... ge-93.html

With regard to 'modifications', I'd say you're on the right track. Get it on the road using as many original parts as you've got, or can easily find, improvising with modern bits if it's easier. Then once you've driven it a bit, let it evolve, either by tracking down more original parts, or by 'improving' it with modern alternatives, whatever takes your fancy.

I love the look of the windowless AK250. I'll get it on the road first, then think about the window mods, rocket-powered engine, machine guns in front wings, ejector seat, voice-controlled autopilot etc.

Yes, it does! Perhaps the van was involved in some low-speed car chase after a bank heist in Petit-Village en Pays at some point (and may explain why it's been stripped down!). Rest assured the bullets did not pierce the superthick sheet metal.

Perhaps I could use both... one to power each of the back wheels.
