Does anyone on here have the metal bending skills/equipment to fabricate one or two of these (one for each side of the vehicle) for me?

That felt part is on every spring can Ive ever taken to bits, definitely a 2cv part. Why it doesn't fit, I can't tell you. I suspect it's either a tighter fit than you're expecting or the new can end is made differently, but I doubt it's the latter.

I keep forgetting to take your drawing to work, but I'll try and remember today.

The pattern canister end is wrong, so another one to add to the list of poor quality replacement parts. :(

Rats! What's the best way out of this mess?? Return to Roy, or adapt the part?

Part not fit for purpose - send it back. If you adapt then "Roy" will just keep sending out crap parts.

Here are two different sets of springs. The ones at extreme left and second-right are for a 250. The ones at second-left and extreme right are for a saloon.

Do the different springs give a different ride? Are van springs stiffer? Softer ride?

'According to the book', an AZU used saloon suspension components.
However, the wire diameter and number of active coils changed over the years, so you're looking at diferences connected with year of manufacture, rather than model.

The range of wire diameters listed for AZU front springs runs through 14.35mm, 14.8mm & 15.25mm... ;)
Could you measure the wire diameters of your springs, to see if they're different?
