James,
I'd doubt that, as the quality of the original parts was usually much better.

For example, the original M7 bolts for mounting the body to the chassis had a tapered lead, which you won't find on any replacements.

Also, some knife edges nowadays seem to be made of monkey metal...
This is how all four knife edges on a recently rebuilt Dyane looked after 1 year/17,000 miles, so Jessie is putting the original '100,000 miles plus' pins back onto her car.

Also, what's going on with those rubber suspension 'end stops' on Ben's car, I've only seen original ones looking like that after they've been dosed with mineral oil or LHM for a couple of years... :?

Makes sense, so therefore seems like a v v good idea

Also, could a set of knife edges not be made initially on a lathe then machined to the correct shape, i assume (based on no knowledge whatsoever) that the 'modern' ones are cast?

Have you done them up really tight and squashed them? That's how it looks in the photo.

Not sure Russell... i've done them up so the cans don't spin and the threads sticking out with the boot on are the same amount as before...
Around four threads...is that right? I'm no expert with these vehicles....

You should be able to turn the cans when there's no weight on the wheels, It's something you'd set up finally when it's on the ground.
