The wheels are stock as a rock!!!

At the moment i have only one spare Ken, a bigger one, the plan is to have a smaller second spare under the bonnet ;)

Post Re: The Dirty 'D'
After driving the Dyane for two weeks now my confidence is growing by the day, going round corners a bit faster giving it a bit more in each gear!!
I would happily get in it and drive to anywhere in the country, it really is smiles per miles.... it handles so well..

unlike a swing axle beetle, unsafe at any speed....

ha ha ha just wait till the summer when you start seeing VW in the distance then think "Ill 'ave him" then crusing by nonchalantly not making eyecontact - but still having a wee peak to see if there is any reaction

Dyane should cruse across continents at 70mph+AND go round corners- up rated springs, gear oil in the shocks next

hope this isnt the VW scene discovering the joys of Citroen....Panelbeaterpeter, Evil Ben, and a few otherer in the last couple of years ;)

Post Re: The Dirty 'D'
I had noticed a very slight pink when going up steep hills ( this is Cornwall) in fourth gear with my foot pushed hard into the floor, so a guess the timing is a tad out. Having not been able to spend time on the ' D ' with work being crazy at the moment i decided to put super unleaded in, 97 Octane until i get it sorted....

No more pink!!! so should i run 97 Octane all the time? I guess thats what its designed to have.......

Or glue a small bit of four by two under the pedal and save even more on fuel.

Retard it a bit, it shouldn't pink even with 95 jungle in it.

Or, [edit; as Russell's already advised]
since you're so close to having optimised the ignition timing, retard it by a small amount, perhaps half a tooth?

I'll leave you to do the maths as to whether the slight reduction in mpg with less advance is offset by the greater cost per litre of higher octane fuel...

ken

p.s. A standard 2CV engine, with 8.5:1 pistons should be fine on 95 octane @ 33* max advance, 9.0:1 or higher will need less advance for the same octane.
