Looking good Sam. Seems like the most recent rear end knock has actually done you a favour.

Hope to be able to get mine back on the road before L2B, but it's all job=money permitting. I'll probably have to sell the Dyane to fund the 2cv repairs :-(

Changing the kingpin. Had to laugh at haynes 'considerable strength will be required' not kidding! I thought it was well worth removing the shaft so I could get the hub in a vice and drift in the new brushes. Also gave the shaft a good old greasing and as it was out, was able to (easily) top up the gear box oil. I'm glad I had the front wing off as there was rust eating away in the water trap between the wing and the body - that's all kure-rusted and sealed now.

In this pic you can clearly see a print out of a thread from a 2cv forum ;) cheers Viking :D

Changing the king pic went swimmingly, and for any noob types like me - have a go! its actually dead easy! The only dangerous part was the welch plug nearly taking my eye out  I cannot recommend highly enough the ecas king pin removal/fitting kit its £36 well spent.

Also fitted the new shock which while they were off, provided easy access to the tie rods and knife edges which Ive services and also adjusted the ride height. Undersealed her too.

There was a brief moment of panic when I had three of the shocks fitted. I put the last one on (the front) and it was too long :?

Turns out you can fit a rear at the front but not vice versa. There was much swapping around but I got there in the end. The left hand shock mount is tricky to get too because of the exhaust... luckily I have anorexic fingers and the patience of a saint

I'm really, really pleased with the new metal work and the paint job:

Kwikfit fittted my scrapyard Mabors onto the new rims. I've put the back at 28 and the front at 24. I swear they're noisy than the Nankangs, and posibly slower, but she's still running in after 2 months of being off the road. I've been throwing her around and so far the new tyres are really grippy! It's amazing how much difference the new shocks have made to the ride - soft, quiet, no more squeaking and crashing over (un)level crossings

Sam im not usually a lover of shiney or cutsey Dollys but that is looking smart 8-)

you can call yourself an expert now and start dishing out KP advice

and totally agree with the shocks thing - probably the best thing you can do to a tired feeling car(if the chassis is ok)

Cheers Sean :)

I'm not really a fan of the shineys either but I let myself off as I do use and abuse her on a daily basis. I think that's what compells me to keep polishing - If I don't, with the use she gets she would very quickley look dreadful.

Sadly it seems that post 1970 cars when they start to look tatty, they look just that - tatty. I rekon ripple's and AZAMs look a b it wrong when they're all shiney!

YAY she passed her MOT today - not a single advisory either :D

Although, the tester opened the driver's window, then went to close the door holding the window sill, not realising that the catch that holds the window open is broken... he sliced his finger in between the window and door

Did a trip to Devon last weekend, done about 500 miles this week and she's purring along. So chuffed :D :D :D :D :D

In preparation for towing the girlfriends boat next week I've fitted a 'new' tow hitch. It's actually off my dad's ripple, he picked it up at a CCC ralley in Wales in the 70s(?).

Anyhow, because of the adventure bars and boot box its on a 2" spacer. I think it looks pretty cool. Hitched the boat up for a test today and it worked great. Can't wait to get the car and boat to the beach :D
