My very first drive and experience in a 2CV was when I decided to impress MrsSqueeze and treat her to a day out. At the time I was a poor student, living in a rat infested flat in Wimbledon. The water tank leaked in the loft and the ceiling came down. I used to dream of living in a shoe box in the middle of the road. But I had passed my driving test and couldnt afford a car. The rent was £20 a week ....shows my age...£20 a week for a flat in Wimbledon...

So to impress the girl I thought it was flash to hire a car for the weekend

I went to my local Citroen place and they loaned me this

Wow pretty cool that it's still about! shame there's no legal way of finding the current owner. Have you tried 2CVGB? not many people own these things nowadays without being aware of the community.

Whats 2CVGB ?

Neil....yep you are right. The dealer was Lovekyn....how did you know or guess that ?

I guess its a weird thought that having just got my first job I wandered into Lovekyns and somewhere I have the recipt, but I recal it was £50 to hire the car for a weekend, which as I say seemed a lot as my weekly rent was only £20. And if you think I am making this up, Im not as you can guess the money from the date...I reckon very early 80s....as can be confirmed by the picture....firstly I have a full head of hair...and secondly a moustache....!!!!

Its amazing to think back to those first 2CV moments, those amazing days. I had never owned a car before or had driven since passing my driving test. So this was about the time of my first paycheck (working for a rubbish company doing boring admin). I was "dating" the subsequent MrsSqueeze and wanted to suprise her with a day out. So I hired the 2CV cause a guy at work told me how great they were and collected MrsSqueeze and we drove to her parents down here in Eastbourne. It was an amazing sunny day and I remember going over that hill at Ashdown Forest and another 2CV came towards us and waved....that was it...I was hooked !!

Sadly when I returned the car, I failed the credit check and couldnt buy it. £2k is a lot of money to me now but in those days it was an inconceivable amount of money, my job was full time and only paid £6500 a year. I SO wanted that car...eventually I scraped a bit of cash together and brought....a bloody mini clubman....and then a 652 Visa which I pretended was a 2CV until the sensors went wrong on the gearbox housing and I knew nothing about fixing them so it got scrapped.....then I managed to get the Jade one.

But hey...just sorting through stuff and found that pic....interesting to think back how this 2CV thing started for me.....and just posted this for the hell of it. Love to track the car again.....but if the present owner reads this and wants to sell it, I guess I will pay far too much for it now Ive said all this!

Funny how life unfolds around things such as cars, especially when they point to moments of significance....OK rambling on now.....memories .....

I didnt intend this thread to be anything but a small chance to trace the car and find out about it if its still around and also to have some total self indulgance with my life...and that I have now done....

.....but I guess it would be interesting to hear other peoples first 2CV moments and how we all got into this strange interest with these vehicles. Kind of been a part of my life since the day that pic was taken in the 80s.

How did this happen for others ? Love to read how you lot got into your cars too ?

I traded the wife in for a newer model in 1987 - A Bamboo, "Hugo", E678 UGO. Yes, Charlie had become my wife after the Homo Sapien version had decided a guy at work had more to offer than I did - still don't know what it was, but I had my new
mistress (the name was just to confuse people - I'm about as gay as I am black, not that I object to either, you understand) - and didn't care!

Hugo and I had some great times together, but less than 12 months later I did the dirty on her - and dumped her for "Ava" - E940 AVO, a maroon and black Charleston. Ava featured the "hatchback" option enabling her to better look after our new arrival Ben. Ben was a St. Bernard puppy, and Ava's back seat lived in the garage!

I didn't feel too bad about Hugo though, I sold her at less than 12 months old, but shortly afterwards saw her driving around in a nice shiny black paint job. I reckoned that anyone who resprayed a nearly new car was probably going to have done a good job and intending looking after her!
