Re: My new 2CV, running restoration. In theory..
Back off chaps, they've just criminalised stalking in Scotland don't you know.. Dave, funnily enough I prefer non shiny ones, I just got carried away. Although last time I decided I wanted a non shiny car, I ended up with this. So maybe shiny is best.. Anyway, I bravely battled my influenza today and went into the garage. Had a wee chat with Martin (smyth602), perved over his beige Acadiane of wonder and got some more painting done. Various exterior nuts and bolts Vent shutter Wing valances Headlamp Bowls Pedal box thingy, and seatbelt mount strengtheners Outside of the bonnet Also painted inside the rear wings, no photo of that. All that remains of the body panels to paint are the doors and outside of the rear wings, I'll be doing the bumpers and lamp bar a different colour, probably satin finish grey. That'll be all for a week or so now as I'm off to Orkney for new years. Rave safe kids..

Don't you wurry that when thigtening the nuts and bolts the paint will crack???? I'm pretty sure Citroen painted the wing bolts in the factory? They don't crack if you etch prime the bare metal very lightly, then put a thin coat of paint just to colour. If you use heavy primer and/or lots of paint, the paint will crack when they are tightened. You still need to be careful mind, a bit of masking tape on the spanner helps, and make sure the paint is very hard. The little ones are for the master cylinder mount thing that goes on the bulkhead. (Someone tell me what it's called?)

Yup, wing nuts were electroplated & passivated, other fasteners & washers on A series had quite strong yellow passivation. But I'm sure Peter's got everything under control, this 2CV is going to be quite stunning when it's all done. lpgo wrote: So now you are going over the top..... exterior nuts and bolts need to be gold galvanised/passified??? for me and nothing else.... Re: My new 2CV, running restoration. In theory..
from new it looked like the cars were assembled smothered in PU where the panel fit was a bit iffy then painted by flicking the paint with a stick. The bolts on the master cylinder housing were burried and painted over as were the wing nuts as Pete has "frenched" the indicators and lost the custode window fitted suicide doors and changed the rear lamp cluster, any chance of loosing points at the Concourse by having plated/un painted nut issues is academic

Well there we go, I never knew that. I think I'll be keeping the painted ones, like Sean says, originality isn't really what the builds all about, plated ones would look better though.. :-/ originally the master cylinder box nuts and bolts were all fitted prior to paint, with a generous spreading of seam sealer over the top, I'll seal the box with tigerseal before I bolt it down, and tidy up the excess. Serves the same purpose but doesn't look like it was done by a monkey.
