I always tend to go sideways and down/in when changing from third to fourth gear, I think it's a much smoother, quicker change than pushing and pulling through neutral.

Ah,
that'll be another of those gearboxes which have the hairpin spring in the lid almost worn through, then.

Okaaaaay, a question please. What does that mean and what does that mean for my pocket? Ahhhhh, that's two questions

PS:- It's always been like that since I bought the car with 70,000miles, it's now on 201,000miles and I've yet to have a problem with the feel and performance of the 'box. :)

Neither front wing's particularly clever, unfortunately. The LH was crunched when we were moving it from Ellie's parents garage to ours a few years ago, the RH was crunched more recently.

It's a toss-up (not having seen the damage to the RH in the flesh) whether it makes more sense to try to straighten those ones or to modify "normal" ones. If a pair of '50s/'60s French ones were obtained, it'd be much easier, since there'd only be the Belgian indicator holes need cutting, rather than plating the normal indicator and heat dump holes first.

The dump tube holes are tricky to weld up invisibly, but it can be done with care and a heat sink.

I could do with a pair of early wings myself if someone goes over to fetch some from the guy advertising 15. Alternatively I may take a trip soon as I have some stuff to take to Holland.

Has he got the Belgian indicator? I did have a lens but I can't remember if it went with the RHD begian car I had.

Yep, it was undamaged (fortunately!).

I'm sure I've got a new-in-box spare somewhere, too, which'll head off to Sam once it's located.
