I found a bit of time this afternoon to start taking the engine to bits.
I hope I can get the exhaust manifold studs out of the heads, they're otherwise perfect.
How do you clean this shit off easily and quickly?
No other progress.

Russ i may have a good used arm bearing or two if your lucky complete with new outer race's possible as the ones on the arms looked as good as new.. Ive just moved storage facilitys today so i should be able to find it / them I will have a look this week for you |

pay attention there a two makes, you can't mix the parts between them. Good luck. |

Have you looked into getting them from a specialist bearing supplier? Seem to be plenty around. |

I took on a nice* set of railings today that the client wants before Christmas. It should pay for a couple of Christmas presents and a few bits for the garage, and just maybe, a set of arm bearings so this car can get a bit closer to finished. *They're not nice. They're utterly boring and the customer can't afford either the time or the money to let us go to town on something nice. It really grips my shit when the customer thinks they know what they want. |

Hot high pressure washer before you strip it but it's a bit late for that. I've been using petrol, scrubbing brush & blunt screw driver but it's not ideal. If u going to strip it completely you could take a wire wheel to the cases with care, but much flushing after! I take it you don't have a parts washer @ work? |

I am probably going to fit a set of 9:1 pistons, but my priority is more making it look smart and tidy and being reliable, so mainly a good service and I'm thinking about buying a gasket set for the carb and taking that to bits, what's the opinion of the forum here, it worked when I last used it so logic says it'll work fine when in the future, should I take something I've never dismantled before apart for no good reason or leave it be as it's not actually broken? Likewise, the fuel pump. Oh, James Wallace, have you lost an 11mm socket?  Had to buy another car and somehow I've ended up with (another) shitty Fiat. I didn't like the first two shitty Fiats I bought and it's not made me very happy that the only car I could find locally for no money was yet another shitty Fiat. This one is the 39bhp 899cc version, so it's really, really shitty. Also, it's had lots of collisions with things in its life. Ho hum. I wanted a Mercedes or a BMW or a Volvo. But driving this tin-pot little wank-wagon is super cheap, and that does mean I can justify spending a bit more cash on the 2cv in the future.
