Re: My new car ...
Had a look at it today when I got up and I should be able to drill out the pedal arm and fit a cable hanger easily enough. No photos though, it's pissing down and too dark. I'm still planning on getting the original gearbox rebuilt sooner or later though, since the gear ratios are different on later gearboxes and the car might well be slower. Though probably not as slow as it was with its original M4 engine, by all accounts.

Re: My new car ...
I had all these dramas when I ''upgraded'' our Ami 6 to modern 602 engine and gear box. It is hell to do, nothing works as you discovered. I was luckly that I had the last model Ami 6 from 1968 where I should steal most parts. I regret doing it and will soon convert back to original Ami 6 before 1968. These 2 Ami's are not the same, body, engine, gear box, you name it completely different Attachment:

Re: My new car ...
Once I've done the clutch cable, everything else should be ok. The speedo cable gearbox end looks to be the same as the later one from my Charleston and I can't think of anything else that needs adapting. Oh, I suppose I'll have to rig up a heater, but I've got two of the old felt tubes which should be flexible enough to get from the heat exchangers to the bulkhead holes, with a bit of fettling. In some ways I'd prefer to have an M4 engine in it, just because I've never used one before and part of me thinks that if I'm going to have an Ami with a later engine in it I might as well have an Ami 8 instead. But I also want this to be a car I can use every day and I don't think an M4 engine would be as good for that as the later engine Russ put in it.

Re: My new car ...
Hmmm, yes. I see what you mean. Got the gearbox in today. I managed to sort the clutch cable, but what's causing me problems now is the gear lever. I've managed to put the one off my Charleston in there and at least now I can get all four gears and reverse, but it sticks out of the dashboard so far that I have to sit in the back to get first and third. I'm beginning to think the easiest way to do this whole job will be to fettle the spare ancient gearbox which was supplied with the car and put that in. Hey presto, no further modifications necessary.

My Ami has a 1978 602 in there - and there has been a lot of adaptation to cables and levers etc. however, it has the original gearbox....so no messing with speedo / clutch cable etc. I recommend getting your original box rebuilt - Rick did mine for £250 Will

Will I think that's what I'm going to do, by the sound of it mine is the same as yours was - noisy and jumps out of third on the overrun. Have you got an email address or contact number for Rick?
