I believe to a frame a car it has to be road legal ie insured taxed mot'd so youd be betterboff driving it there!!

Did you make the bit out of fibreglass or fibreglass onto the metal,?

Well it was a-framed back from Croydon to Wisbech in 2010, no questions asked

I believe it was fibreglass onto metal, not that there was much of it there, it looks like new now though!

I think it depends if the car has an engine fitted or not. Without an engine fitted it's a 'trailer' so no need for insurance etc. (I could be wrong though, I usually am )

I've done this loads of times and so long as there is a trailer board with working lights and the correct number plate of the the tow car this shouldn't be a problem, providing the car being towed isn't shedding parts as it goes down the road!

As far as I'm aware, it's very hit or miss. I wouldn't want to be the person to test it in court. A framing is a real grey area, with no defined rules to say it is legal to do anything more than recovery, in which case the car would have mot and tax.

I think if you were to read the letter of the law carefully, then any vehicle registered for road use, with it's wheels on a public road, needs to be taxed (with a few exceptions,eg pre-booked MOT). However I'm not sure how it gets enforced.
In the past some friends needed to move a project car and asked at the police station if it would be ok. The reply was that, though still a grey area, as it had no engine fitted it shouldn't be a problem, and that as they had asked first, they definitely wouldn't get any trouble. They towed it over 10 miles with just a rope and no bodywork forward of the bulkhead.

Even with the front wheels off the ground, eg a towing D*lly, I think the law is just as murky. But I know plenty of people use them for unroadworthy cars.
