I'm not an expert on identifying the Ami super bellhousing, but I do know that they are shorter than the GS one. So if you swap to a GS bellhousing it's going to move your engine forward and lead to all sorts of other things to sort out, engine mounts, exhaust, etc. (Incidentally bellhousings are easy to swap from one 'box to another so long as you have the matching input shaft)
I would suggest trying to measure the difference between the clutch and flywheel on the 1299, and the clutch and flywheel on the 1220 assuming you still have it complete. Then if need be transferring the flywheel from the 1220 onto the 1299 if it turns out to be thinner.

This might be a redikkalus suggestion  but could you put spacers on the bellhousing studs to move the engine far enuff for the clutch to clear the bellhousing? Assuming sufficent length of spline on Imput shaft, bury in crank spigot bearing etc....? If only needing a small amount of extra room :?:

Gearbox input shaft looks to be cut off.

Just a gs type, have you double checked that everything is absolutely aligned right?

Might sound stupid but it's worth a shot?

This is also what I would do if it was mine.

You wrote, when you loosen the nuts the noise was almost gone, so it needs only to be about 5 or 6mm....

I thought I replied to you about the clutch and flywheel thing? Mine did exactly the same when fitting a 1299 from 1220. in the end i think i swapped the flywheel and clutch from the 1220 to the 1299. I had scoring on the fins and plate with the 1299 flywheel fitted as something touches that shouldn't. 1299 clutch and flywheel in car port at the minute so will take a pic if i remember when i get home tonight and try and think why this happened.
It was a long while ago now but there was some reason it didnt fit and like you, only get things turning by loosening the engine to box bolts.

Tim

P.S how are your bruised thighs from trying to move a GSA lump on your own ;) Been there, feel your pain!

No I didn't get any messages from you....

Glad it's not just me Tim, :? I had a look at the 1220 flywheel and it looked identical to the 1299 that's why I just left the 1299 one on...
Was going to say I'll try and sort that at the weekend but will be at register day...So one evening instead... Fingers crossed that sorts it out...!!!!
Don't suppose you r going to registers day at the weekend r you?? If u were don't suppose u would bring the van for one last outing so I could c it in the flesh before it goes to its new home!!?? :(

Will see about the weekend. both Jeremy & D*lly have blowing exhausts but depends on how much i get done this week Work:Pub ratio. only so much work can happen before I need to let off steam - work being work, not tinkering!
