I checked out the new Mehari body shell at the NEC last weekend are they really that thin and wobbly? or do they normally have an inner frame..

I kept coming back to the 2CV GB stand and checking out the Ami 6 and the early Dyane ( loved it ) and the black Pallas near by...

Meharis have a subframe that bolts to the chassis. The bodywork is actually pretty solid. No comment on the one at the NEC

The tupperware is, yep.

"Mostly" is probably the right answer there. Or maybe "originally".

The Cassis Mehari body is produced from the original moulds and when the plastic is moulded the panel design with ridges etc add strength and when pop riveted to the tube framework the structure is pretty solid but can flex.
The design is clever using material properties to great effect. I replaced my dashboard section with a new section which had split and the finished result is as the original

Umm,
the original panels were ABS, which is quite tough stuff.
The *replacement panels from Cassis* are fibreglass, but as it's only the same thickness as the ABS originals, it certainly isn't tough.

I fitted a Cassis bonnet with spare wheel well onto a Mehari heading for Raid Iceland this year and had to add a steel bar across the engine bay so that it could actually support the spare wheel.

The disc which covers the centre of the spare wheel was so flimsy that the owner had to remove it when travelling at a reasonable speed on the open road...

ken

edit/ *Those I've seen are fibreglass, perhaps they use the correct material for others? *

They appear to do two, ABS/ASA and ABS/PPMA, both using the original moulds but the former, they say, is original quality ABS and is quite a bit more expensive.
