Errr,
that's the whole point, isn't it?
Underseal which dries tend to be brittle, with cracks forming and corrosion occurring beneath the hardened 'crust'.
Rather like 2 pack paint which has been applied with inadequate preparation, come to think of it.

( Back in the day when I had a 'proper' job, I recall grease paint being used on the inside of box girder bridges, with one of its principal advantages being its resistance to drying out.

Waxoyl underseal which is what you are using doesn't dry. I've used it and don't like it for that reason.

Yes, but you get covered in the stuff whenever you crawl under the car to sort out summat. Perhaps if it formed a skin I might like it more.

Sean, you are right about the old fashioned pitch/sand stuff. I don't like that either. It made a nice cosy jacket for the rust mites to beaver away under it.

Perhaps that paint system that they have used on the iron ribs of the Cutty Sark might be the answer. Supposed to last 50 years. Oh yeah, I bet it doesn't and I expect it costs a fortune.

Question time

When I took the body off the chassis, the foam at the bulkhead disintegrated as it was so stuck to the shell. Shall I bother replacing it in the view that gazza is gunna be doing replacing the lower bulkhead anyway? He's not around at the no and going to re shell soon

Ive got a chassis foam kit, the front an back 'panel' are the same shape. There's no point replacing the back as its fine so I geuss I could just replace it an when he does the work he could replace it again?

Sorry to ask you all a pointless question but don't want to do in neccasary work

Also
What is the best way to remove the old foam? Good old
Scraper and / or chisel gently and some acetone to remove excess??

Thanks :)

James, if you have the foam then just remove the old foam and fit the new stuff instead. It's cheap to buy and easy to fit with the shell off the chassis. :)

Why not just stick the chassis foam to the chassis?

Job done then.

That's why I was going to do. Just that the old foam most of it lifted when the bulkhead came away from it...

If its ruined, replace it, if it'll still do its job, leave it.

So I'll just replace it anyway ! I have the foam now anyway

I decided to spray the car, even after deciding it was not possible

Managed I get waxoyl Over my mums boat which will please her I'm sure..

I've done 3 layers painted and a thick layer sprayed. That should be enough...

Doesn't look different but here is a pic anyway

Image

I'm going to leave it to dry for a week, and then get it back on le chassis

I also cleaned out the LHM reservoir which had a load of black filth in the bottom..

Its as good as new inside..!!

Once this is done I will get the car going again. And tape up the hole!!

The bottom of the bulkhead had seen better days though..

C90 after this.. Going to "bone it" as they say on the forum, and get rid of the rust ob it (bad in rear wheel arch inside..!)
