My new petrol gauge turned up today. I had to modify it though as my tank in not 1 metre long.

Put in the spiders (new) on the end of the drive shafts and got everything ready to lift it back in.

Plank of wood up front and bolted it in with little effort :D

On with the speedo cable

And the battery earth

And connected the handbrake cable to the rear plates

Re-installed the brake bits & bobs

And centred them (I hope) with the help of a bit of DIY special tools.

On with the brake lines and a quick brake bleed (it is easy just pulling the brake pedal while doing the bleed all in the engine bay)

Drums on and adjusted as well as the handbrake cable adjustment for now (just by hand)

BUT NOW I AM STUCK

When I put the spider in the brake side of the drive shaft the bearings slid in relatively easy (a couple of taps with the little hammer) and all was fine.

But can I get these bloody bearings in the outer driveshaft - I pressed one in with the vice but not a lot of movement. I filed off the burrs on the driveshaft but still nothing.

Before I dame them - is there any hints, tips or "special" tools needed for this job. Do I need some sort of G Clamp press or something. This has bought everything to a standstill for now.

Help please

From memory, stick the drive shaft on the vice and offer the cross joint to the drive shaft.
Then fit it on the out put hub which is not flapping around. Gently tap in one cup, fit the locking clip, then the last side.
