Post Re: 1981 Acadiane
i've been bangin' on about for what seems like an eternity, but today my mate has taken the Acad in for it's much needed body repairs...

Getting it to his workshop involved driving across town, meaning today was the longest journey i have so far undertaken, even cracking in to 4th gear for the first time in my ownership!

He's going to take photo's of the progress, so i'll wang 'em up as he goes.

That's a lovely looking van - what else needs doing apart from the window frames? (and a good clean, cos' it's looking a bit mucky ;) )

Spent this afternoon in my friend's garage prepping the repairs for paint. All the welding's completed now - unfortunately i don't have any of the inbetween stages, although he does on his camera. When he uploads them i stick some in this thread...

Anyways, there's a little fine sanding left to do tomorrow, but he reckons it won't take long & he's going to order up the paint in the morning. Thinks it may be painted by the end of the weekend. then i've got 4 weeks to get it sorted, MOT'd & registered if i stand any chance of taking it to the French national!

Drove it across town from his workshop to his spray booth without windscreen & side windows. :)

Good work Neil. Four weeks should be easy peasy.

Have you started the registration procedure? It didn't need to be that minty to get an MOT.

Of course it didn't. I'd just rather get it sorted sooner than later, once it's on the road i'd feel less inclined to sort the niggly bits.

As for the registration procedure - i have a dating certificate & have filled in the relevant forms, so when/if it gains an MOT certificate i'll pop along to the DVLA local office in Exeter, hand over the necessary & a fistful of dollars, and then i'll wait... and wait...

I've no idea how long the DVLA take with that sort of thing, I was just thinking that the waiting would be less tense if you'd MOTed it a month or two ago and handed the forms in then. Oh and I forgot to add, it's looking great and I'm well jealous, even though it's beige.

Agreed. Although the bodywork should have been finished ages ago. Partly my fault - i originally thought it would have been ready to give to my mate around early to mid Feb. At the time he wasn't too busy & reckoned he'd have been able to do it in a week no worries. I was a little behind schedule & coupled with the fact he got busy & had a VW Beetle in his workshop for longer than anticipated it wasn't until a few weeks ago it finally got in...

I'd hoped that the one week turnaround still stood, but it's not worked out, unfortunately. It'll be more like 3 weeks when i get it back. He's doing it 'mates rates' so i can't really complain! Time has just slipped away!

Regarding the registration procedure, here's a copy n paste i borrowed from the listing of that rather clean ex. EDF AZU that was on eBay a few weeks back:

Quote:
On 15-Mar-10 at 14:02:39 GMT, seller added the following information:
UPDATE As I said in the listing, i took it for MOT today. It sailed throgh the MOT without any issues at all. The van drives great, the engine runs well, it started instantaneously this morning despite sitting in the garage for weeks. Al in all I'm pretty pleased with it!
Next step is the bureaucracy to get it registered in the UK; Local vehicle licensing office here I come.

On 16-Mar-10 at 14:17:18 GMT, seller added the following information:
UPDATE #2 I paid the UK registration fee this morning at the Northampton local vehicle licensing office. All the paperwork went through without issues and by the end of the week the 2CV should have a UK registration plate and historic tax disk. It is just waiting on the DVLA to return the documentation to me by post.

On 19-Mar-10 at 09:51:01 GMT, seller added the following information:
UPDATE # 3 I got the new tax disk, revised MOT certificate and authorisation certificate to get a number plate through the post this morning. The log book itself hasn't arrived yet, but the van is now UK registered! It has been given a J plate

On 19-Mar-10 at 10:47:56 GMT, seller added the following information:
UPDATE # 4 I've just ordered the number plates, pressed aluminium black and silver, including a custom made plate for the back; made in 2 halves to accomodate the number plate light.

Doesn't sound too bad...
