Quote: hopefully shell last along time, i assume your keeping it? I'm hoping the shell will have another twenty years in it! I'm also hoping my other half will be moving her 3 year old Ka on and use this. I don't think I could face selling it but I could never face selling my other 2cv either. Quote: you going to wax oil the hole thing? Oh good god yes. I've got 10 500ml tins of cavity wax ready to be flooded into every nook and cranny. Thankfully just about every box section and cavity is fresh steel (sills, floor reinforcements, windscreen top rail, back light panel) so it'll be a case of protecting new metal rather than fighting rust.

Re: Very rusty '86 Bleu Celeste.
good good
i got 10 litres of wax oil for £20
bargain!!
may i suggest, that every window, including rear quarter lights, and front windscreen, you use shit loads of windscreen sealent, it will stop the water getting in and rotting around the window surrounds, thats what ive done, and its worked a absolute treat so far, its about 7 quid a tube, and a tube will do every window 10 times!
make sure with windscreen you do both sides of seal!

Yes, good advice that. I'll look into it. Does any excess come off the paintwork easily enough?

Re: Very rusty '86 Bleu Celeste.
yes it does wipe of easily, with wd-40, but without wd it is a bitch, make sure you have plenty of bin worthy rags to ruin, and also make sure you have gloves, and roof away from the scene, and seats also, as it will cling to anything fabricy!
id do it on all windows personally

The thing that always worries me personally about window sealant is that, should any water get in, it's escape is even less likely. Meaning more chance of rot! Like I say, just my opinion but, I reckon with a decent few coats of paint on the shell and careful window fitting, it'll be okay. I certainly won't be using any sealant on Rachaels when I reassemble that.

Re: Very rusty '86 Bleu Celeste.
well with mine, the water would come into the windscreen surround, and leak out into the cab, it can still do that if it pleases, as ive sealed it on the outside, not the inside, so any can get out if needs be..

Jameswallace wrote: well with mine, the water would come into the windscreen surround, and leak out into the cab That's VERY unlikely to be the rubber not being thoroughly sealed onto a solid steel surround. Far more likely to be due to a damaged seal or a rotten surround - or knackered wiper spindles, bent vent flap, rotten bonnet hinge etc etc...
