 Re: My old Blue Bamboo
Good Work. Car is looking great. On the exhaust hanger you used to be able to get hold of these for the hanger at the back of the torpedo silencer, which were supposed to reduce lateral wobbleness and prevent breaking swan's necks. Attachment:

(don't know why in this picture it is shown at the front of the torpedo though ??) Couldn't see this after a brief search on Ecas' site but maybe I just haven't found it yet, you could give them a call though? Saying all this but I've always had a short tailpipe on my 2cv and never noticed a faster than expected turnaround on Swan necks... Chris.

 Re: My old Blue Bamboo
These were a factory fitting on vans and Meharis, afaik... < http://www.flickr.com/photos/30132857@N06/3613104301/ > When fitted, they would still allow some vertical movement of the exhaust in its rubber hangers, but restrict lateral movement. If a tie wrap is fitted _lightly_ around the rearmost rubber hanger, it seems to fulfil much the same purpose. However, the problem is that as the message has got passed on, it's become scrambled, so that you will find tie wraps on the front hanger only, on both hangers or tied up so tightly on the rear hanger that little or no movement is possible... ken ( Go on then, tell us where that picture's from, with the fitting at the wrong end... )

I tied mine tightly because there doesn't seem to be that much lateral movement in the rear hanger to begin with, so I thought; "Well if that small amount is supposed to be bad, then less must be better."Does anyone know of any failures or is it becoming an urban myth type thing where everyone has 'heard' it happens?

I have had some times in the past where the flange has broken around the end of the swan neck, but as I always generally used to run exhasusts until they are 80% coke tins before then it didn't seem to matter. Re: My old Blue Bamboo
Well the new windscreen's in, I've corrected a couple of my previous mistakes and the build appears to be going my way again. I'm still flitting from one job to the next as and when I can snatch the odd hour or two, but progress does seem to be being made. I've also posted a rather frightening list of what there is still to do, time pressured - Moi? Read more on the blog here - http://olsnails2cv.blogspot.com/

 Re: My old Blue Bamboo
Yep, the indicators are staying put, with the addition of matching grey housings to tie in with what I did with the rear lights. I'm hoping that once I fit the new ignition switch and finish up all the wiring I'll get the car to run. Those jobs should be done by this weekend.
Once it's running again I'll be happy enough. I then need some warmer weather to allow me to respray the remaining panels. In the meantime I'll be making up and covering some new door cards, and fixing the seats.

 Re: My old Blue Bamboo
I'm following the story with great interest. Seem to have suffered many of the frustrations you've also enjoyed. I suppose I shall have to drag myself kicking and screaming into the 21st century and start to contribute to this august forum!
I'm particularly interested in the shot showing the trim above the windscreen as I think I've put mine back on (after a few weeks of work on the windscreen area) the wrong way and I now get a healthy draft even with the roof closed. If there's chance of another close up of how the rubber and the alloy strip are placed on the lip it would help enormously.

 Re: My old Blue Bamboo
In relation to the post above, I'm not sure you can put it back on the wrong way? Perhaps your hood needs adjusting at the sides of the bar to make a better seal. Anyway, some may have noticed that I've been posting wiring questions in the tech section all this week, and I'm pleased to announce that the car is now fully wired and working. Thanks to all that offered help and advice, it's folks like you that makes 2cv ownership worthwhile. I've not put the dash panel back in yet due to a slight mishap of which more is written on my blog. Tomorrow I'm hoping to bleed the brakes, then put in some petrol and go for broke! Oow! I shouldn't say that word with my track record. More here: http://olsnails2cv.blogspot.com/
