I agree. Looks good in the top picture after polishing. I think the grille is asking to be modified, either painted white with red chevrons or summat. Has this engine swap been done before? I'm just thinking of the EFI issues, the old airhead's used twin carbs which were simpler to set up.

 Re: Yet another red spesh...
I've managed to get the engine a bit further back so it's not touching the crossmember, and I've started to make a front engine mount. I'm going to speak to a laser cutting company and get them made up, it'll be neater than me doing something with box or tube I think. Same for the rear mount, I've got all the dimensions I need now, so The car can start to be put back together. I've made a recess for the bulkhead to cover the rear of the gearbox. I'll hopefully get that welded in today. I've had to put two holes in it to get at the gearbox mounts, otherwise it'd be impossible to get at. I'm sure I can find a couple of blanking pieces or grommets to fit the holes. The sump is worryingly low, I think a 6mm thick steel guard will be needed, so I can smash it into the floor without worrying too much.

 Re: Yet another red spesh...
Will the bonnet go over that engine at the front? It looks so much taller than the standard engine.
I really like this project, it'll be fantastic when it is done.

Have you read Joolz' thread? viewtopic.php?f=5&t=137I think a black grille is the way forward, either that or standard grey. Today I made the templates/patterns for the laser cutting people to go from and to give me a better idea of what I'm doing. I could leave it like that but cardboard is probably not going to be strong enough. I might be a right tart and have something lasered into it. And now it's back together with a 602 back in, as I have to get it out the workshop and all my work done before my boss gets back monday... (can you tell where it was polishing made me bored?)

I've no idea how I missed that thread, or why I don't remember seeing it. Weird.

 Re: Yet another red spesh...
Joolz has given me a lot of advice already, He did all the hard work, I've had most of the hard work done for me. I bought the engine with the bellhousing and flywheel adaptors already made.

 Re: Yet another red spesh...
Hi Russ, good to see you're making progress, it must be a pain in the ass when you've got to keep putting it back together to go home. Looks like you've got your motor sitting very low there, mine is quite a bit higher and fits under the bonnet ok. The bottom of the engine's front cover is about level with the top of the cross member. http://i686.photobucket.com/albums/vv22 ... C10746.jpgI think my engine must be further back, I can't find a good picture that shows the exact distance between the engine and cross member, but there's at least enough room to get your hand between them, you can kind of see from this view. http://i686.photobucket.com/albums/vv22 ... C10515.jpgI'm surprised it's so difficult fitting it in, I never tried, but I assumed the 2cv 'box was significantly shorter than the LNA. Your adaptor plate's a bit thicker than mine I think but only about 10mm. Did you check that measurement I gave you from the back of the motor to the bulkhead? I can't remember what it was now, but it must be in a PM somewhere. One thing I wish I'd done was have a set of downpipes to hand when making the mounts, then perhaps I wouldn't have needed to modify them so much afterwards.

 Re: Yet another red spesh...
That's interesting. I'd saved a couple of your pictures onto my iPod just for reference when I was at work, but it wasn't clear enough on a small screen. Seeing that top photo it's obvious yours is a LOT further back than mine, and much, much higher. I regret it now, but I never tried the bonnet before I stuck it back together. I reckon it's going to be touching or close to it.
I'm interested to see if the boxes are longer, I'd have thought the LN box would be longer than a 2cv one, Something's obviously different between your car and mine and I can't believe it's the adaptor plate either.
Having seen that photo of your exhaust I'm a bit worried. I did a lot of assuming when I put it in last week, and one of the things I assumed was that yours must have been sat quite low in the chassis, and that it would be possible to get the exhaust out and between the head and chassis. It's now clear to me that it's going to take a seriously tight bend to get it to miss everything. I might raise the engine up (I'm going to have the mounts lasered about 50mm too long so I can adjust the height when I weld them together) which means I might end up cutting a hole in the bonnet. That's something I'd like to avoid, but unless I can see a better way round it, then that's what I'll do.
Are you still making exhausts up? Do you think you could make me a couple of downpipes? More than happy to pay the going rate of course.
