Turbo started

Got up early this morning and started the assembly of the turbo (used old Visa engine as guide for making parts) As you can see from pictures 2 hours work - not bad...... Throttle body is there as first in line air flow stop incase the engine sucks the oil from the turbo on tickover (thanks Torben for tip). Have to take family out for day now - more news soon

Looking good, but I don't understand the need of the trottlebody; do you make it open and close together with the carburator????? or is it an emergency device which you can close when everything is going wrong?????

It opens and closes with the carb - BMW motorcycle cables and splitter. Torben says without it the oil could by pass the seals on the turbo because suck though carb arrangment.

o.k then I understand and it makes sense, I think you can put a blow off valve between the 2 carbs then too... it could work!!!!!!!

It looks really good ... but I would just work a little more on the manifold, in the area where the two pipes Mother been to one just before the turbo, use two 90 degree bends instead

It bl--dy work

After many hours of nice work - turned over engine without plugs to get the oil though the turbo. Put the plugs back in and thought I'll give it a try and hell it started on first key. It ticks over like a normal 2cv but revs like a banshee. Need to do the exhaust - what silencers are people using on turbos... Do not want lots of noise.

Did exhaust early this morning - (5am starts are no good) The runs fine - just like normal Dyane until around 4000 rpm when boost cuts in and then knocking starts - (awaiting programmable ignition to solve this) but car can be used under 4000 very happlily. I think the exhaust is holding back the flow so will have to look into silencers - maybe one of my old Royal Enfield will do.

I don,t have any silencer at my turbocar, just a pipe (coming out???) ending underneath the drivers door. My Smart turbo starts boosting at 2500rpm but is is a little smaller then yours.

Car feels very similar to Torbens figures http://www.citronik.dk/jforum/posts/list/135/6746.page Page 10

Slghtly down on power up to 4000 rpm and hopefully with correct ignition will pull the 46 bhp his does.
Do not like the dip in power and torque around 3000 - 3500 rpm. Hope my will not dip like that

I think your turbo is still to big,

A Smart (600 cc) turbo or something like this would be better

however it isn't complet the manifold is missing and the wastgate
