No, left and away.

2 4 R

Lets see if that comes out right. (Not very good but understandable)

This hasn't been updated in a while... Where were we, well on the way back to france the driveshaft gaiter went on the other side, luckily it must have gone when I was nearly there as I didn't know anything about it until I looked under the bonnet a couple of days later and the was grease every where again, but luckily some was still in the joint so all it needed was some more grease and a new gaiter which I had on the shelf.

While I had that wing off I also changed the wheel bearing which needed doing, I'd bought one at Regs day, I didn't bother with the proper tool and drilled through the locking ring to remove it. The access is a bit awkward on the front wheels but it went easily enough. It just left a slight graze from the drill and I had to grind a bit of the threads away where the old staking was.

I always like to know I wasn't wasting my time, and I definitely wasn't, this bearing was pretty buggered.

After that I finished making a shelf that goes under the parcel shelf, it's plywood coated with epoxy resin, and then painted, then a bit of the same cloth that I used on the parcel shelf (way back on page 2 or 3). I made it to just fit an A5 envelope and it still leaves enough room to fit the megasquirt box at the end of it... one day.

Also used some more of it to tidy up the main shelf and the bulkhead, here I stuck it over a sheet of camping mat. It looks so much better than it did, you can also see the stereo box thing that's made the same way with the plywood and resin. I tried to design it carefully so that the water that pours off the vent flap knob doesn't run into the stereo. Neil looked at it a bit sceptically last year when it was still bare ply, hopefully he approves more now!

On the way home from the ICCCR the odometer went 'around the clock', yes I was sad enough to take a picture, am I sad enough to post it? Are you sad enough to want to see it?!
If you really need to it's here. http://i686.photobucket.com/albums/vv22 ... C11193.jpg

More interesting news it passed the MOT yesterday, with 1 advisory for the offside kingpin.

Post Re: Joolz's Red One
Further good news, I've been getting close to 50mpg, when I drive carefully, better than some standard cars. :D

I had also noticed that the engine was getting noisier and was a bit puzzled about why, turns out the airbox had split, but a bit of wood glue had it sorted again, yes that's made out of ply as well. I may have to wrap it in fibreglass to strengthen it as a permanent fix though.

Also I haven't cured the leaky gearbox, I'm still occasionally getting smoke wafting into the cab, and frequently a slightly stomach turning smell of burning gear oil where it's dripping onto the exhaust. I did wrap PTFE tape around the speedo drive, and it did slow it down for a while, then it started leaking around the selector rod and now it's back to leaking around the speedo too. I don't think the problem is the seals as much as the fact that the oil wants to escape. I've rechecked the level and it's normal, the gearbox probably isn't at the exact angle citroen intended, but it's not far off. So far I've been thinking it may be easiest to make a deflector so the drips miss the exhaust, or just block all the holes in the bulkhead, but really I'd like to stop it leaking, it's making a mess and some of it's going on the brake disc. Any Ideas?

The gear knob is still in about the original position, but the mechanism is all a one-off. I've not got a picture of it at the moment except this teaser by Pete Mcflurry of this forum.

I was on flickr and could see one of my photos had been linked to but it wouldn't tell me which photo or which forum topic!

Yes the photo I took as it's a beautiful bit of kit.

Just a thought from my motorcycle days is the gearbox vented on 2CV's? As I remember that some of the box's on BMW /5 to 7 series bikes got pressurised by the drive shaft, there was if I recall correctly a relief valve the box, which would fail to function due corrosion, the dodge was to make a small hole in the top drive shaft gaiter and insert a length of washer tube, which was them run up the frame and positioned so no water could enter!

What I'm getting at is venting the gear box in some way or checking that the vent if fitted is not blocked! Just a thought which maybe of some use or not :)

These were kind of the lines I was thinking along. The only sign of anything that looks like a vent is on the selector gaiter, visible in the pic on the previous page http://i686.photobucket.com/albums/vv22 ... C11158.jpg That's definitely not blocked, I had it all apart last year, though it's not spitting oil from there.

It occurred to me that maybe the culprit is the Beemer engine which you have fitted ,turning the box at higher speeds so creating more pressure within.Perhaps a vent into the top of the case might be the answer. Again I recall this being done on various bike race engines:-)
