It always surprises me just how different cars are. James' car is a totally different drive to mine. It drives nicely though, steering's tight, clutch feels nice, etc.. It is a bit hesitant in second, but makes up for it in third. Compression is pretty damn fine.

The only possible issue with James' car is it eating points and condenser, I can't understand why it burns them out so quickly.

James, don't forget that if you put a heavy flywheel on you'll need to put a three spring clutch on too, which also involves changing the release bearing on the gearbox.

Thats why i got a 123 ignition, I ran for years adjusting and replacing points and condensers which needed doing every 500km's or so and given i made a lot of 800km trips interstate it drove me nuts! 123 ignition was the best investment i made on the car! Well apart from the $350 towing fine i got for leaving it parked in a clearway overnight after a late night call from my ex girlfriend, that was also money well spent

voltage reg, earthing of the engine as well as correct coil would be my checks

points need a "run in" tine then they settle and give 1000s of miles of life - the weak point being the condenser. Vellaman/smiffy sparks does away with the condenser

RT ecas sell a diaphragm clutch to fit the heavy flywheel. Will I still need to change the bearing??

The voltage isn't too high. But it may be half a v too low, and it's on as I believe an original coi,

You might, I'm not sure. But if it comes with one, you might as well change it while you're there.
