Re: Yet another red spesh...
Picked up the 2CV cross chassis this morning...

Thankfully, Dad decided he'd help out today...

Which meant it didn't take long before the old chassis was stripped of the running gear...

Thanks to a broken axle bolt it took a bastard age to get the front axle ready to go on...

One beer down, thing's are going relatively slowly...

Fuel tank, new fuel pipe and new brake pipe fitted...

Gearbox fitted...

The springs cans are only fitted so that it can be moved about, they need to come off and have new springs fitted yet. Seat runner fitted, and seatbelt buckles...

Two beers down and the tank saddle, front and rear shockers and various poxy little clips are fitted...

I need to drill some holes for some more clips to hold the brake pipe and fuel pipes in, I welded over the others when I put the strengtheners into the chassis...

Three beers down and the engine is in, new engine and gearbox mounts were used (also destined for the crosser

This is going in the skip tomorrow at work...

Almost ready for the shell to go back on...

Handbrake fitted...

Right, here are a few things I've learnt. No, actually, Here are a few things I already knew but didn't do and would have really helped the day along:
Always buy new fixings, espescially axle bolts and the M7bolts that hold everything else together
Never fit anything like axles, swing arms, tank saddle, spring cans, tie rods, fuel tank etc without taking them to work, shotblasting them and powder coating them, then retapping all the holes where nescessary. Not only does this car now look shit, but I'm filthy.
Plan ahead, at least, give enough time to order stuff you need let alone wait for it to arrive. Don't arrive home from work at half ten one saturday morning and think 'sod it, I'll rechassis that shitty old 2cv I bought yesterday' with no new parts or refinishing facilities.
Don't bother doing this if you're as poor as me. I have no idea how I'm going to buy the floors, sills, bulkhead and rear heels it needs, I have a budget of £buggerall to do this. This is likely to mean the shell sits on the drive until the parents get hacked off and call the scrapman in.
Buy lots of axle stands.
Buy at least 4 cans of lager, I'm a real lightwieght and starting at 9am this morning 4 have barely sufficed. BE WARNED. Espescially if you need to drive to get beer, luckily, i was able to walk to the little shop at the end of the road when the first two can's ran out, you might not be so lucky.
Twenty fags have lasted the day, with plenty to spare for tomorrow.
That's about all the advice I can offer at the moment, it's not been a bad days work, although it's seemed to take forever to do a simple job like get a broken bolt out. If I'd planned ahead I'd have been able to fit the floors and sills to the shell while the old man refitted all the running gear, and I might be somewhere close to running it in for an MOT tomorrow, as it is, that's weeks off, and it's got to me a bit. Never mind, I'm sure it'll get done all in good time, I even managed to polish a bit of it. What a twerp!

"No mate honestly, there's just a bit of rust on the front drivers side sill, it looks really good"
