Yep, and that will be my next purchase too I think. There's been talk of drilling a couple of holes in the front cowling to direct cooling air to the standard coil, but if the yellow coil is a fit and forget option it's got to be worth the money.

Well whatever I fit, I'll be looking at somewhere different to mount it than behind the grill. It does get some airflow where it is, but it means checking things like timing is a bit difficult because I have to balance the grill on top of the wings when running the engine.

Most folk seem to fit them on the gearbox.

Post Re: Belinda: on the road
At the weekend Ade Rumble & Jono remarked that at the moment, Belinda looks like she's having an eye test and is wearing those test glasses that enable the optician to slide in different lenses. This is something that I've needed to look at for a while now so I spent this morning sorting it.

The problem was that when I initially fitted the new headlamps, they protruded form the wing too far meaning I couldn't get the surrounds to sit flush against the wing.

I had initially tried using a few rubber tap washers to recess the headlamp bracket but in the end I made some spacers from an old aluminium speaker stand.

With 20mm spacers at the bottom & 10mm spacers at the top, the headlamps are now recessed just far enough to enable her to say she's been to specsavers.

Post Re: Belinda: on the road
I wasn't sure what job to do on Belinda last night so I thought I'd tackle something that had been niggling me for ages and one that could be a potential MOT fail next month.

Since I'd done away with the horrible moulded door handles that Belinda had when I first got her, I'd been grabbing at various bits of the inside of the door in order to close it from inside. I had considered getting some of the plastic door straps that are commercially available, but I thought I could make something better & much more in fitting with the Bedouin's utilitarian nature.

This is what I came up with using some heavy duty tie-down strapping (of the type used on lorries) and some aluminium.

Image

At the same time, I'd been concerned at the lack of check straps on the doors which limit the amount they can open so in the same fashion, I made some of those, using the ends of strapping that already had pre-formed loops on the inside of the door frame (that you can't see)

Just to finish this post, I managed to fit some proper heater tubing using some of the after market boyracer stuff to join individual bits and I;m happy to say that engine noise has been cut dramatically :D

Very nice Bertie. i like the door pulls a lot. the front end looks much better now, with light surrounds.

Cheers Joe - it's just a case of plodding on now, attending to the details a bit at a time really

Sort of a work in progress. i guess with a car like that you sort of have a blank canvas to do what you like anyway!
