Ah,
in that case, maybe someone who doesn't understand 'leading' and 'trailing' shoes has been having fun with the rear brakes?

Had one of these only last week, correct orientation on one side and #rse about face on the other side, to maximize entertainment.

Throw in a sluggish wheel cylinder or rusty lower pivots on the side which is correct and the back end will curtsey nicely as you brake... :roll:

I doubt if he'd notice any reduction in performance, but I reckon he would notice the reduced fuel bill... ;)

It's also worth remembering that a 2CV engine should not need 99 octane fuel.

Before the rebuild I took my car to Bill Gale in Southport to have a new oil cooler fitted. After he had done the job he mentioned that he had test driven the car and asked me did I fancy selling him my engine? He would give me an exchange unit plus cash.

As this engine goes like the clappers I declined. (80+ without fuss, It was built by MWR in London.) It was he that mentioned that my timing was set quite advanced, and the car would benefit from a higher octane fuel. I tried it, and it did, although I have no idea what has been done to the motor by MWR.

at a minimum, I'd have thought that a 'tuned' engine would have 9.0:1 pistons, plus whatever work has been done on the cylinder heads...
The higher the compression ratio, the _less_ ignition advance is needed, as long as every other factor is the same.
So, whereas 33 degrees maximum advance should be OK on an 8.5:1 engine using 95 octane fuel, you may not get away with much over 30 degrees for a 9.0:1 engine.

Of course, using a higher octane fuel to control a tendency to pink is the other option.

Btw, if you're paying regular visits to that 'private test track' to check on maximum speed, keep an eye on the centre of the fan pulley.
At a sustained 6,300 rpm you're well into the rpm range where fan pulleys are prone to decide that they'd like a long rest... :roll:

Had a training course to attend today, so popped into work to pick up one of my work colleagues, who was also on the course. I decided to use the 2cv and show off it's "handling properties" to said work colleague ;) Needless to say there were gasps and cries aplenty :lol:

Used the Deuche to travel to work this afternoon, took the long way to work (25miles instead of 5 miles :lol: ). I dropped one of my work colleagues home this evening, and it was the first time she'd ever been in a 2cv. Needless to say, she loves it, thinks it's well ace :D

Got the 'Works Christmas Do' on this evening, but there's 6-8 inches of white stuff outside. Now, my question is...Do I use the Fabia or take the 2cv? :lol:
