Post Re: DO-LAH refurb
It's interesting to note that unwinding a gearbox was the nail in the coffin for many 2cvs in the uk, in the early 90s we were always being sold cars which were otherwise good but with 'broken gearboxes' that turned out to be simply unwound.

I'm suprised that Vikings not seen it more often in his 20? Plus years as a Citroën man, maybe it's just us Brits who need to franticly reverse everywhere? I've done two now, and can think of endless others that have occured.

I learnt my lesson the first time (200 miles jammed in 4th) and it turned out the second time the box had already been done not long before I bought the car, but not very well, I was reversing downhill at very slow speed!

I've not myself (yet!) unwound a box, but the celeste spesh my dad had before the one we have not went through 3 in the time he had it... First time he just got in one morning and it was stuck, the second time in a Leclerc carpark in the south of France when on holiday.. He bought a new box from the supermarket and took it to a local garage to be fitted! We still have some very cool french Citroen bills somewhere lol... This new one went a few weeks later and he gave in and bought a red dyane off my grandad which was crashed a few weeks after that... He then bought a sierra :/ lol

btw you have an extremely cool car 8-) just spent the last 15 mins reading this thread.

I DIDNT UNWIND MY GEARBOX GEORGE! i sheard something in the gear linkage, cant remember what exactly, will find photos! it's like a rod which goes into a ball with a slot thats on the gear linkage in the top plate of the gearbox! which meant i had very similar symtons to unwinding, couldn't use any gears except 1st or reverse, but it wasnt unwound! :)
