Re: My new 2CV, running restoration. In theory..
Well I've taken 4 days off work, and am attempting to get the floors done. First I made a sheet metal folder, to save a bit of money making simple panels. Before After. The metal cost me £4.00, a bit cheaper than the alternative in Machine Mart and works ok, so jobs a goodun. First bit to tackle was the rear floor section. Was slightly rusty. Heelboard end was rusted so cut that out and replaced. Almost non existent D pillar bottom New section made and welded in I bought one seat box end piece, so I could copy it and make the other side. Mine is the one on the left. Fitted Closing panel made and fitted Other side wasn't as bad, but got the same treatment. Centre section was holed, so cut that out and replaced. Flipping it over tomorrow and might get the bulkhead done.

Just realised I shouldn't have boxed in the seat box end, as I now won't be able to weld the inside of the sill end.. >_< will instead cut a hole in the sill, weld it from the inside, then weld the outside of the sill back up.. happy days. Sean did warn me of this, but I forgot.

TBH wouldnt worry about it too much, as long as the weld is good on the external stuff and when you fix the seat box corners you make sure the metal extends down to the lower edge of the sill so its welded in with the flange of those home made panels it'll be fine. i like to make the panels the same but go for lap joints rather than the messy flange - keep it all as clean as possible and there is less for the crap to stick to and start the rot.

Ah right, we'll see, it'd be easy enough to cut a bit out of the sill and weld it up again, got some .8mm cutting discs, makes jobs like that quite easy. You're right, I should have done lap joints.. oh the joy of hindsight. Oh well, I have a feeling this won't be the first 2CV I'll do, so lesson learnt.

Re: My new 2CV, running restoration. In theory..
Bulkhead next.. Due to RHD bulkheads not being available, I got LHD one and with a bit of jiggery pokery changed it to RHD. One LHD bulkhead Sections cut out and swapped round Welded Time to get rid of this mess.. Trial fitted, with self tappers. Chassis dug out of storage, and body put on top to align bulkhead and floor panels. A pillars were gone at the bottom, so went about repairing those with some scrap pillars. N/S O/S also Off with the old sills Quick alignment check with the doors on And all zipped up This is what I did to get around the cock-up earlier, fitting the seat box ends before welding the sills in.. and on with the floor pans That's all for this now. Didn't get round to doing the A panels, will wait til next year, along with upper bulkhead and the front end. Happy Yule folks!

Haha.. thanks. It was just to protect the chassis from scratches. Remarkably, no festive pyrotechnics ensued.
